We are delighted to announce that on-line registration is now open at www.bayareaseniorgames.org for the 2012 California Senior Games Championships, March 10 - April 7. This is the qualifying meet for the 2013 Summer National Senior Games in Cleveland, Ohio.
We are encouraging all athletes to register via the on-line registration. Paper registration forms can be download at www.bayareaseniorgames.org as well, but note that there is an additional $15.00 administrative fee.
We have created a relationship with the popular Stanford Treeathlon, February 26. They will have a special Senior Games division. This is a great triathlon, with a bay swim and you will qualify for the national triathlon in 2013. Register here. http://triathlon.stanford.edu/treeathlon/info.shtml
We are looking forward to another great competition - The Games will feature all of the sports needed to qualify for Cleveland and the 2013 Summer National Championships. In addition, we will continue our tradition of hosting the exciting exhibition sports of water polo (men and women), fencing, soccer, lawn bowling and rugby. We are also going to offer rowing, sailing (after all, America's Cup is coming to San Francisco) bocce (bocce world championships coming to Bay Area May 2012) and Pickleball. Pickleball, which has been added to the NSGA events for the 2013 National Championships, will be held in Pasadena in 2012.

Enjoy.. and once more we applaud and commend your continuing commitment to exercise -- the key to long, healthy, living.

A salute to Boomers
The California Senior Games have been proving for years that athletes don't need to stop competing after reaching age 50. Every year new age-group records (50-54, 55-59, 60-64, etc.) continue to be set in swimming, track & field and many of the sports recognized by the National Senior Games Association (NSGA). At California's 2011 State Championships, Track & Field alone produced 3 American Records and 3 World Records!
In 2012 California is proud to launch the ENCORE CUP SERIES for Boomer Sports including Soccer, Rugby, Water Polo, Sailing and Fencing.
These demanding sports are not yet sanctioned by the NSGA and we believe they deserve recognition," said Anne Warner Cribbs,1960 Olympian and Chair of the California Senior Games Association (CSGA ). "To honor the athletes' commitment to healthy aging and competition, we are announcing the Encore Cup Series for Soccer, Rugby, Sailing, Water Polo and Fencing. Trophies will be awarded to the outstanding men's and women's team and/or individual in each sport annually."
"Senior athletes are anything but 'retiring' - they train hard and use their life experience to deliver all-out performances, capturing a piece of the Olympic spirit that inspires us all," continued Cribbs. "These athletes provide a model for an active and engaged life for their peers as well as following generations."

In our last communication, we invited you to see Dorothy Fadiman's award winning film celebrating seniors who participate in a full range of athletic activities. The impressive result is that these men and women become stronger and more active, rather than less, as the years go by. The story follows a man in his 70s, who has won more than 200 Senior State and Regional medals.
As many of you were not able to come, here are some thoughts from Dorothy. The Film is online and can be viewed or downloaded with one click by clicking on
or it is available for sale at $10.00

We will carry on our new tradition of the Solar Torch Run and add a kick off event Pasta Feed on Friday, March 9th. Check out the photos from the first Solar Torch Run, held at Stanford this year http://www.bayareaseniorgames.org/photo_gallery
New this year - we will be requiring all athletes to register on line and sign the official waiver. For those without a computer (or a grandchild and a computer) we will have two days to register at Sports Basement in Sunnyvale. These dates will be announced soon. All paper registrations will be charged a fee of $15 for administrative costs. Thanks in advance for your understanding as we take advantage of the technology available to us.
