From The Principal's Desk

Dear Parents and Friends,

Nedlands Primary School has a diverse student population with a high proportion of students from a multicultural background as well as students who have lived outside of Australia. This makes for an environment where students bring with them a rich variety of experiences and an appreciation of cultural diversity.

Nedlands Primary School provides a supportive learning environment which nurtures a positive self-esteem within each child. Children are encouraged to care for and respect themselves and others. The school fosters self-discipline and the need for students to accept responsibility for their actions.

Nedlands Primary is a unique and exceptional school because it has students who are interested in learning, staff who are committed to excellence and a supportive community. This creates students who are both independent learners and are community aware. An open and positive relationship exists between the school and the community.

Instrumental Concert

Instrumental Concert

Our Instrumental Concert held last Tuesday 22 May was a showcase of excellence. Supported by our hard working P&C, the school music department provided a concert that allowed our talented music students to excel. The education of the 'whole child' was very much on show through this performance and highlighted the notion of learning for life that playing a musical instrument provides. My sincere thanks goes to all staff and parents who work towards making the music program at Nedlands Primary exemplary.

                                                                                                                               A Malcolm

Congratulations to the students for their conscientious approach to their rehearsals in preparation for this special evening.

All ensembles gave wonderful performances including solo brackets from Bruce Acosta [Year 7 student] on electric guitar and Devin He [ex-Nedlands student] on piano. Devin also accompanied the String Orchestra on piano - many thanks Devin.

Thanks also goes to the many parents who attended the performance to support their child and the school's Instrumental Program.

Not many primary schools can present a musical evening that includes performances by a String Orchestra, Jazz Band and Concert Band. The level of performance is a reflection of the talent and time and effort that our students give in preparation for performances such as last Tuesday evening.

                                                                                                                                  G Jones

You Can Do It Program

The 'You Can Do It' program fosters student success, well being and positive relationships. This program is widely used in 100's of Australian schools and has been in existence for about 25 years.

The main focus is on building emotional resilience (to not sweat the small stuff) and to weaken the impact of negative thinking.

The five keys to success of 'You Can Do It' are:

  • Confidence
  • Resilience
  • Persistence
  • Organisation
  • Getting along

The teachers teach specific lessons relating to the 5 keys to success and we also reinforce these keys through our 'Green Card' system.

School Photos

Today Wednesday 30th May, students from Years 1 - 7, the on-site Pre-primary and the Nedlands Park Kindergarten students had their school photos taken. Tomorrow Thursday 31st May Nedlands Park Pre-primary and  Kindergarten students.

A whole School photograph will be taken next year for the Centenary Celebration.

Dogs on school grounds

I understand that dogs are loved and valued members of some of our school community families, however due to school policy, could I please ask dog owners not to bring them onto the school grounds.

Contact Details Update

Please advise the office if you have any new land line phone numbers or mobile numbers, as these need to be kept updated for our student information sheets in case of emergency.

Lost Property

A ball pump has been left at the school. If you are missing one please see the school's office staff.

Could parents please ensure that they label all items used by their children at school.  There are a number of items in the lost property bag which are unlabelled and therefore cannot be returned to their owners.  A number of parents have reported that they are missing labelled items of apparel. Please take the time to check all items of clothing being used by your child to ensure that items belonging to another child have not been inadvertently taken.  Any items not belonging to your child should be placed in the lost property bin.

PLEASE TAKE NOTE: Due to the enormous amount of clothing left in the lost property bin, from now on every attempt will be made to return any piece of clothing to its owner; however any items without a name will be placed in the secondhand clothes at the uniform shop.

P & C News

How the P&C enhances the quality of your child's education...

Your annual contributions and the volunteer effort of our P&C members mean the NPS Parents & Citizens' Association improves the quality of your child's education in many tangible ways. These include:

  • Funding teacher support on a regular basis
  • Paying for all students' Mathletics licenses
  • Maintaining & operating the swimming pool (NPS is one of a handful of WA public schools with an onsite pool)
  • Running the Uniform Shop (and passing the savings on to parents and the school)

Our next meeting is on June 20. We hope to see you there (new members can sign up anytime.)
