From The Principal's Desk
Dear Parents and Friends,
Nedlands Primary through the generous support of the Parents and Citizens Association, Department of Education (DoE) initiatives and school resources is working hard to place extension classes and support where it is most needed across the school. I think it is timely to list the extension and support groups that are taking place as a part of the education program here at Nedlands. As a direct result of our P&C funding a days teaching time and granting extra monies for extension classes we are able to provide an extension class for year 1 and 2 students, support classes in writing for year 4 students and one to one Literacy support through the Multi Lit program for certain students in year 3 and 4. An extension class for our years 4 and 5 in Science will commence soon to be followed by an extension class in Visual Art taking place in term 3. The school has timetabled a days teaching for English as a Second Language students, support classes in Writing for Year 5 and 6, while DoE provides extension classes for students through the Primary Extension and Academic Challenge Courses for years 5 ,6 and 7.

Ensemble Concert 2012
Tuesday 22nd May 2012 - Altius Centre - 7.30pm to 8.15pm
This special evening will give ALL parents the opportunity to hear their child perform in the String Orchestra, Jazz Band and Senior Concert Band.
All the children have been rehearsing diligently since the beginning of this year so it will be extremely rewarding for them to be able to entertain their parents and friends to show what they have achieved so far this year.

Bahá'í Children's Classes at Nedlands Primary
Bahá'í Children's classes will continue to be offered to the children of Nedlands Primary School throughout 2012 as a component of Special Religious Education. Children from all religious and cultural backgrounds are welcome. The curriculum used is 'The Peace Pack', based on the Bahá'í teachings. (This Curriculum will be available for parents to view at school reception.)
Students learn how spiritual qualities, or virtues, such as honesty, courtesy and service are a necessary part of a peaceful community and world. They learn about all the major religions of the world and how they connect with each other. The students gain understanding and skills which will equip them to become world citizens - such as freedom from prejudice, belief in the oneness of humanity, the essential unity of world faiths and the art of consultation.
These concepts are taught through art, drama, craft and music.
- The Development of Character
- The Unity of Faiths
- A Peaceful World
- Independent Thinking
- Inner Peace. The students learn that peace in the world begins with inner peace and that prayer, meditation, and service to humanity will help them along this path.
The teachers are trained volunteers, accredited by the Department of Education & Training. All have "Working with Children Checks". Parents are very welcome to contact Mrs Wendy Wisniewski for information Tel 0438 319 195 about the Bahá'í classes. |
