THE PERFECT PLACE - FEBRUARY ISSUE
Welcome to the latest installment of "The Perfect Place." As a real estate agent in New York City, I am constantly exploring. Whether with clients looking for their "perfect home" or friends attempting to find the "ideal meal," I am always in search of the perfect place.

Every month, I send out a newsletter discussing downtown neighborhoods, new buildings, hot restaurants, great shops or fun things to do in the city. I hope you enjoy it.

If you have ever walked around the city with me, you know I am a lover of New York history and architecture. Much to the chagrin of my friends, I usually spat out random facts of trivia. "That building held the first elevator in the US." or "The Statue of Liberty's arm and torch once resided in Madison Park."

It should come as no surprise that my new obsession is the New York Public Library's collection, "Classic Six: New York City Apartment Living from 1880-1910." The catalog captures the architectural details, floor plans, broker babble, and fixtures used to entice potential purchasers to buy apartments or "French Flats". Before 1870, most well to do lived in private homes. Thus, developers need to sell the upper and middle class with large chambers, high ceilings, lavish interior details, well appointed kitchens and baths and ample closet space. Sounds a little like now. However, most apartments were anywhere from 8-12 rooms and some were duplexes. Studios were for the staff. Maybe things have changed a bit...

It is fascinating to see how New Yorkers lived more than 100 years ago. Relive the glory days

organic avenueA Little LOVE

January was cleanse month. It seemed that everyone I spoke to was on some type of juice fast. Blueprint, Jill Pettijohn, Organic Avenue's LOVE Cleanse.  But what about the rest of the time? Shouldn't we eat healthy 365 days a year? Minus Thanksgiving, of course.

In an effort to become more conscious of what we put in our bodies, Organic Avenue is serving healthy meals to go. Refrigerated cases present a variety of options from organic juices to gourmet dinners. Based on the vegan and raw food mentality, all products are made daily. Production takes place in refrigeration so that food and juices keep "as much life-giving nutrition as possible all the way from the farm to the table." Stop by and take home one of their delicious meals like Beets, Cucumber, Tahini and Dill or their Cauliflower Couscous with Basil, Mint, and Currants. The Falafel with Cabbage Slaw and Veggie Burrito are hardier options. Or totally veg out on the Green LOVE Salad (Spinach, Kale and Chard).  Love yourself in 2010.

ice skateGlide into Winter

As we settle into the shortest and coldest month of the year, sitting inside next to a fire sounds delightful. However, there are days when the sun is shining, the temperature is moderate and your body is begging you to do something other than sit on the sofa. Listen to it. Put on your hat and gloves and get your blood pumping while gliding across ice. Nothing says winter more than ice skating.

Uptown has Rockefeller Center and Wollman Rink, which can be busy. For those who reside downtown, check out the Battery Park Ice Rink. While it lacks park views, it makes up for it in convenience. Skate, fall, laugh and enjoy your winter outside.
