Great News from NLPCT!

NLPCT Logo

Greetings!

There's a lot going on at NLP Canada Training. If you could use great energy, great momentum, and great ideas, come visit this month. I think you will be as energized as I am by the different voices, perspectives and leaders who will be front and centre in April.

Let me back up a bit, and tell you about March. In March we featured a new evening introduction, Shiftwork, and a new one day course on Storywork. The leadership team attended training in Therapeutic Metaphors and Linda gave a new Storywork keynote to the MRIA. We've been building terrific momentum as winter turns into spring.

In April, we will feature a one-day introduction (the last till August), a wonderful evening event presented by three great NLP practitioners, and the hypnosis certification course.  The evening event will support one of our favourite charities: Trails Youth Initiatives.

May is coming fast. It's going to open with a special event for NLP Practitioners, our annual retreat at Kelso on Friday, May 4. On May 10, we will have an equally special evening event (open to all comers) at our regular location.  Our Relaxed and Ready evening program will feature a live jazz quartet and better ways to think about active listening and congruent responses.

There's so much happening, this newsletter is bursting at the seams!

If you're new to NLP Canada Training, you might be surprised. We're not just another small training company. We are a lively community of people who love to share ideas and practices for thinking better and communicating better. We'd love to get to know you better.

Mark your calendars. You deserve to feel this good.

A special event in support of Trails Youth Initiatives
DEALING WITH DIFFICULT KIDS
This is a very special opportunity to listen as three terrific experts share their experiences and insights about what makes kids hard to handle.
  • John Dafos is a terrific teacher who inspires, supports, and gets results from kids in challenging schools.
  • Kathleen Milligan is a therapist who uses a unique blend of models to help kids and their parents find balance and resources.
  • Nick Babiuk is the Programme Director at Trails.  "In 1992, the idea seemed simple. If you could take urban kids who are struggling to deal with issues related to adolescence and give them a place to develop roots in a setting that makes them feel like family, then they will find their wings and the confidence to make good life decisions reaching far beyond the safety-net of Trails..."

This will be a powerful and practical evening for parents, coaches, teachers, social workers and counsellors who work with youth. Please help us spread the word.Mike Mandel

Achieve More with Neurolinguistic Programming

Are you new to NLP? Many institutes offer introductions that tell participants about NLP. We do more: we offer you a chance to learn the basics of NLP by applying it to real-time work on a goal that means something to you.

On April 15, Ron Vereggen will offer "Prepare to Succeed: An Introduction to NLP." This one day programme walks you through the 5 steps necessary to support achievement. You will learn to:
  1. Manage your personal state and connect with what you want
  2. Define your goals so that they are compelling and achievable
  3. Find the resources you need to overcome obstacles
  4. Talk it up! Tell the story of how you are achieving the goal.
  5. Plan for the future. What happens after you get what you want?
This course costs only $150 including HST and includes a $150 credit towards NLP Practitioner certification.  You won't have to share any personal information, you'll feel comfortable working through issues and obstacles, and you'll make real progress towards achieving something you want (or solving a problem you don't want).

Our next NLP Practitioner course begins May 12/13 (continuing May 26/27 and June 2/3).  This is our last weekend course until October. If it's important to you to be certified on weekends, it's time to register. Space is limited.

How Hypnosis Training Improves Your Presentation Skills
Once you become aware of hypnosis and the ways it supports a state of relaxed focus, you will also notice that you are already using hypnotic patterns whenever you have the full attention of an audience (whether it's an audience of one or of one thousand). Training in hypnosis does not add to your repertoire so much as it builds your skills. Here are three of the basics that I used to great effect in my keynote:

* Framing
* Positive suggestions
* Repetition

Framing
 I like to think of a presentation as a set of nesting dolls. The tiniest doll is the heart of the presentation; like people's hearts, it is so important that it is hidden under different layers and can only be revealed under special conditions. The presentation ends as it began, with all the dolls stored neatly in the largest shell.

Positive Suggestions
It has often been observed that people are drawn to notice disasters.  Hypnosis suggests that influence means slipping suggestions about what is desirable into the general chaos of train wrecks, messy desks and overwhelm. Always tell people what to do (not what to avoid) in simple, direct language that is tangible to the senses.

Repetition Weaving a phrase or idea throughout your presentation has the same effect as a chorus in music: often it becomes not only the most memorable but the best loved part of a piece. If it's worth saying once, it's worth saying again.

There are many many ways to wrap an audience in your voice so that their minds become quiet, attentive and open to the right suggestions. You can enchant an audience by paying attention to them, offering them a presentation as if it were a beautifully wrapped present, and unfolding the layers of your talk while offering positive suggestions.

Hypnosis isn't just for hypnotists. It's a study that helps everyone developed relaxed focus and high quality connections.  Want to know more? Register for Ericksonian Hypnosis with Mike Mandel. Mike's a master of elegant hypnosis and mesmerizing presentations.
