Greetings!
Happy Summer! After months of hoping and planning, we can all enjoy long hot days and evenings perfect for hanging out with family and friends. It's a time when every signal seems to tell us it is time to relax and grow.
We are glad that some of you will choose to relax and grow during our summer programs. This newsletter outlines three terrific evening programs, a practitioner/master practitioner training in August and a one day to prep you for fast progress this fall.
I'm also including some links to web content perfect for browsing on a lazy afternoon or late in the evening when you finally come in off the patio.
Wherever you are, however you are spending this wonderful month, I wish you wide open senses to enjoy every minute.
Linda

Tuesday July 12, 7:30 pm to 9:30 pm Talking to Your Kids
Whether your children are toddlers or teens, this evening course will give you practical advice for listening to what they are saying with their words and behaviours and for talking in a way that gets through to them. Learn the basics of pacing and leading with behaviour and words; learn the benefits of sharing stories (not using them to lecture); and develop patterns of behaviour that avoid resistance and build your family relationships. Call a friend or two and enjoy an evening that can deliver fewer frustrations and more smiles in your relationships with your kids.
Tuesday, July 26, 7:30 pm to 9:30 pm Need a Shift? Practice for Practitioners
Brush off your manual, pick your favourite edits, and come out for a practice session with other people who know how to give a shift - or who hope that shift will happen for them this summer. Linda and the training team will be out to demonstrate, encourage, and provide resources. This is a great chance to review your skills and practice with people who will enjoy playing with you. It's also a great chance to ask other people how they would handle sticky situations or choice points that haven't shifted for you yet. It's even likely that Linda will share a particularly useful story. No charge for practitioners trained at NLP Canada Training and their guests.
Thursday, August 4, 7:30 pm to 9:30 pm NLP and Mindfulness
Mindfulness is often defined as moment to moment awareness of one's experience in the present moment. It has been around for thousands of years and offe rs a simple way of centering yourself in the midst of stress, overwhelm, and any of life's challenges. Conversely, it's also used to expand the joys, triumphs, and successes that life equally gives us. It is a form of state management used by CEOs, health professionals, salespeople, cab drivers, and everyone in between. It is used in therapeutic contexts, in business and legal negotiations, and to help teens improve self-esteem.
In this evening course, you will learn how the practices of mindfulness and NLP overlap each other, and how you can harness them to handle every aspect of life with greater congruence, rapport, and focus. You will learn how powerful focused, sustained awareness can be in helping you achieve your goals, in being more creative, and in handling daily stress. Call Carole at 416-928-2394 and register today.

Models of Change to Add to Your NLP Toolbox
We are always looking for ways to extend, deepen or enrich our understanding of how people get better at paying attention to the things they value and the things that are working for them. This week, I created a new web page to introduce three models that I find especially useful.
ACT was recommended by Mike Verhey, who has promised to do an evening event on ACT for NLP practitioners . The acronym (pronounced like the word, not the letters) stands for Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. Essentially, it's an approach that allows people to observe their own thoughts and feelings so they can accept them. Symptoms are reduced because they are not resisted: there is no downward spiral of feelings about thoughts about feelings. . .
Narrative therapy is related to the NLP practices of telling, eliciting, and reframing stories to focus on what is desirable. At the heart of narrative therapy is the role of the listener in drawing out and enriching particular aspects of the stories being told. Clients learn to find and shape better stories about their lives.
I took the Solution Focused Leadership course with Alan Kay this winter. I found it a practical and positive complement to NLP. Both focus on solutions (not problems) and on amplifying what is working. The web page I posted here has links to books, website and videos. Enjoy exploring these ways of staying attentive to what you want, what you like and what is working.

Summer special for Practitioners who register with a friend
The summer intensive is a terrific experience to share with a friend, co-worker or family member. When you take the course together you can compare notes, remind each other of key points, and practice together outside of class. It's a great way to enrich your experience of the course and even to hold each other accountable for applying what you learn to get terrific results. And this course is now eligible for a tuition tax certificate.
This summer, we are offering you the chance to register with a friend at 2010 prices. Call Carole at 416-928-2394 for all the details.
August 7-14 inclusive NLP Master Practitioner Intensive Training
Call Linda at 289-242-5089 to talk about what you will learn and how you will benefit from training as a Master Practitioner. Requires certification as an NLP Practitioner.
August 8-13 inclusive NLP Practitioner Summer Intensive Training
Take advantage of some of the longest and most pleasant days of the year and allow yourself to become more focused, more effective and more attentive to the people and achievements you value.
The first unit teaches you techniques for clearing away the fears, false limitations and negative experiences that stand between you and the life you want. In the second unit, you'll learn to connect strongly with what others are thinking and feeling. You'll be more influential, less conflict-prone, and more able to learn from the models of excellence around you. In the third unit, we'll add layers of language to the skills you have developed so that your words begin to get the results you want more often.
NLP is a powerful set of practices that allow people to notice how they are getting the results they are getting and how to leverage change to get results they like better. Whether you are looking for more hope, more options or more powerful influence, NLP practitioner training will deliver results.
Call Carole at 416-928-2394 for pricing and registration information. We offer subsidies for out of town clients, and customized payment plans that put training within comfortable reach. There are never any interest charges or fees for our plans.

Some things that make me smile
How much time do you spend mulling over the things that make you smile? It's easy to get caught up in the petty irritations or to replay an endless list of irritations. But why not take a few moments to sit and be present with the things that make you smile.
Here are some things that make me smile when I think about them:
- parallel parking on the first try
- good Canadian rock 'n roll on a warm summer evening
- letting myself sink into Monet's water lilies at l'Orangerie in Paris
- bad puns made with good timing
- babies who have just learned to walk
- long drives with good conversation
- picnics in the sunshine
People who make time for dreams and sharing the work also make me smile. Thanks to John, Andrew, Malcolm, Lorraine, Mike, Mike, Steve, Ron, Barb, Andreea, Andrew, Carole and Kathleen for helping me walk the talk and pay attention to the good stuff.
