Greetings!
It's hard to believe that it's already November. We are all awakening from the long, warm trance of summer. Soon, we will watch the snowflakes and drift into a different trance. But now - now is the time in between, the time when we can be fully awake and make choices about what we want that next trance to bring.
When the clocks fall back on Saturday night, winter begins. We know that the calendar won't change until December, but the real beginning of winter comes when we leave work in the dark. It's the time for going into the cocoon and growing warm while the outside grows cold. It's the time for telling stories and letting them wind us into better states of mind and reassuring new possibilities.
In this space between the long, lazy trance of summer and the long, still trance of winter is the time to become aware of trance and the way it nourishes and challenges us. What better way to get focused on focus than to study hypnosis with Canada's best, the marvellous Dr. Mike Mandel?
We hope you'll have the chance to have the trance that sets you free to find the focus that will drive the results you want. If you can, take the course with Mike and learn to enjoy trance and to offer it as a gift to others. If you can't, then browse this newsletter and enjoy knowing that hypnosis is a way of knowing at the edges what you need to find your edge,
Linda & Chris

Here's the quick version of How Hypnosis Works Many of you know John Dafos as an author, storyteller, educator and NLP Master Practitioner. John is also a hypnotist. He'll be joining Linda Ferguson to lead a two hour evening event on Thursday, November 4 (if you're reading this before 7:30pm, call Carole and ask her to save you a seat).
For those of you who won't get to experience the workshop, here are some of the highlights of How Hypnosis Works:
- Trance occurs naturally whenever your whole mind is focused on just one thing. In NLP we call this congruence. Some people call these kind of states flow or being in the zone.
- We follow the lead of people (including hypnotists) who are in a better state than we are or who have better information than we do. We don't follow blindly (especially in trance)
- We enjoy trance states because they allow us to relax and focus, eliminating the chatter and noise that makes it hard to know our own minds or think our own thoughts
- We take suggestions when they are in line with something we want and we trust the person making them.
Yes, you can learn hypnosis and get people to do stuff that they would not normally do. The stuff you can get them to do is the stuff they really want to do but are too distracted to get around to doing on their own.
Yes, John and Linda will be in total control - of the stories they tell and the focus they encourage as the group goes in and out of trance together and separately.
That's How Hypnosis Works.

 | | Ericksonian Hypnosis with Mike Mandel |
What would change if you studied hypnosis with Mike Mandel? Mike Mandel's next course in Ericksonian Hypnosis begins November 27/28 and continues December 3,4, and 5. It's an opportunity to learn from the very best: the best hypnosis and the best, funniest, most engaging teacher you have ever had.
If you're going to invest two weekends and a significant amount of money, you need to know why. Here are the three most important benefits our clients get from training with Mike Mandel:
- a new appreciation for what people know and what they don't know about the way they are making decisions: you'll be a smarter observer of the people you want to influence and you'll be more aware of how you are making your own choices
- the ability to relax under pressure. Trance demonstrates that our most intense focus demands that we let go of tension. This changes everything: when you are under pressure, your default position will change to allow you to concentrate better and produce more.
- the ability to enter trance when it is useful to you, and to guide other people into trance. You won't need props and you won't wonder if the person you are working with is capable of trance or easy to hypnotize. You will know simply know that hypnosis is available to you whenever you want to change a habit, focus on a difficult task, or let go of stress - in yourself or in someone else.
When you call our business manager, Carole, you'll be talking to someone certified in Ericksonian Hypnosis by Mike Mandel. She will answer your questions, and discuss our special offers and payment options with you. We have special prices for NLP practitioners trained at NLP Canada Training, and for people who register with a group of two or more.
If you're not sure what kind of people take training in hypnosis, visit the HOPE Symposium website. Among the speakers trained by Mike Mandel are: Ron Vereggen, James Perly, Barb Luedecke, Zoe Pepler and Karen Petcoff, John Dafos and Willard Bond. |
Hypnosis tells that voice in your head. . . Shut Up and Listen How insistent is that critical voice in your head that finds problems before they exist and continually interrupts your efforts to listen to something outside yourself? Some people carry a whole committee of conscientious critics in their minds; other people hear just one voice worrying away at them. Almost everyone, almost always, has a voice in their head that is running at the same time they are attempting to listen to someone else speak.
Many of us who have experienced hypnosis experience it as a reprieve from the noise in our heads. The voice or voices that continually label and debate get softer. We are free to let our attention follow a voice that is truly, blessedly, external to us. We do not shut up and obey or even shut up and follow. But we do shut up and listen.

Lulling and Selling Lulling is a funny word. We lull babies to sleep, and that's a good thing. When we lull someone's fears, on the other hand, there is a suggestion that we are doing something actively or implicitly deceptive. After all, fears exist to keep us safe from genuine harm. How could lulling them be a good thing? The problem for most human beings living in modern societies is that our fear circuits are on permanent alert. We are afraid more often than there is reason to be afraid for our safety or well-being.
Hypnosis works because it is the art of quieting protest long enough for good suggestions to be heard.
