I was at Grayson Highlands in southwest Virginia to photograph the wild ponies that roam the mountain balds.
As I was hiking across one of the balds I noticed an Appalachian Trail sign with unusual damage and wear patterns. The end of the sign was bent and the paint rubbed off. I looked closer at the damage but couldn't figure out what caused it.

The mystery was solved later that morning - see the images below which show the cause of the damage.

I am the featured artist at Star Trails Downtown (Kingsport TN) for the remainder of the month of September. There is a special display of my photography at the front of the gallery.

The Townsend Artisan Gallery is now carrying my images. If you are near the Cades Cove area of the Great Smoky Mountains I recommend checking out this great gallery.

I'm starting to make plans for fall photography. The changing colors of fall leaves are only a few weeks away in the Mountains South. The colors begin changing in the 6,000 foot elevations in late September and gradually make their way down the mountains and into the valleys throughout the month of October.
I love the fall weather and am looking forward to this photography season.
Take care,
Jeffrey
