Renewal
This is my most recent serendipitous image.
I have always been attracted to "lone trees". I was driving home after photographing steam locomotives for the previous four days when I spotted this tree. I made a U-turn, pulled off the road, unloaded my camera and tripod and made this image.
Morning Colors
I was at a state park to photograph a sunrise balloon launch. The balloons were late to arrive so I wandered down to the lake. I saw these colorful boats lined up in a row with the sun just about to rise. I set up my tripod, lined up the image and waited for the sun to appear over the trees.
Reaching for the Best
I was biking around Cades Cove in the Smoky Mountains on the lookout for possible landscape shots. Instead of a landscape I spotted this dear on it's hind legs nibbling at the dew covered leaves.
Entwined Design

Enlightened
My plan was to hike the Big Bald area along the Appalachian Trail on the border of Tennessee and North Carolina. The weather was cold and windy and after hiking for a while and realizing the weather wasn't going to clear I decided to look for somewhere else to photograph. I left the area and drove along some back roads where I spotted the vehicles in the above images. |

The Meaning in Trees
Panoramic Gallery of the William King Museum, Abingdon VA
October 30 through December 1, 2012
Trees are an integral part of many of my images. From a tree standing alone in the landscape to a tree-lined trail through the woods they elicit feelings of wonder, strength and comfort.
I invite you to view The Meaning in Trees and to join me for an artist's reception on Thursday evening November 1st. This is also the same night as Abingdon's "First Thursday" when the other art venues in town are open late.
