Just Think Outside
...the place for creativity
Greetings!

I would appreciate your recommendations.

In 2012 I plan to expand my business into addtional markets.  I am looking for galleries in the cities of Nashville TN, Charlottesville VA, Greenville SC, and Charlotte NC to carry my photography.  If you have favorite galleries in those cities I would love to hear from you.

Also, if there are galleries you especially like anywhere in the southeast I would like to hear about them too!

I am working on a project titled Highland Explorations.  Two of my favorite locations for photography are connected by the Appalachian Trail - the Roan Mountain Highlands on the border of North Carolina/Tennessee and the Grayson Highlands in southwest Virginia.  Images from this project will be featured in future issues.

Prior to moving to Tennessee from Pennsylvania I didn't realize how much snow falls in these mountains.  Below are images from my first winter trip to the Roan Mountain Highlands.

Thank you,

Jeffrey

Highland Explorations - Winter

 Welcome to North Carolina

                                 Welcome to North Carolina

Novemberr 21, 2008 was first time I went to the Roan Mountain Highlands after a winter storm.  Snow a foot deep and bitter winds greeted me at Carver's Gap on the North Carolina border.

The roads had not been plowed on the Tennessee side of the mountain so my four wheel drive came in handy.  Luckily the North Carolina plows made it to the top and the parking area at Carver's Gap had been cleared.

Drifting Along the Appalachian Trail

After parking my car and heading onto the AT I discovered I was the first person on the trail.  In the image above the AT is to the left of the tree in the foreground.

The clear path beyond these drifts should have been my first clue that the winds were howling on the open bald.

Snow in the Highlands

                                       Winter in the Highlands

After exiting the forest I entered the open area of Round Bald.  I had decided to walk to the top of the bald but never made it.  The winds were so strong that every time I walked forward two steps the wind blew me back three.

Though very cold and windy my first winter experience in the Highlands was fantastic.
