The days are pleasantly warm and the nights cool. The landscape has a wonderful mix of late summer wildflowers and the colors of fall.As the month of October progresses the colors reach their peak which is always breathtaking.
I began photographing in early October at the tops of the mountains and as the month progresses will work my way down to the lower elevations. The areas above 5000 feet are reaching their peak and at the base of the mountains the colors are just beginning to change.
The fall colors are especially beautiful this year.I've been photographing in Grayson Highlands in southwest Virginia, Grandfather Mountain in western North Carolina and in Graveyard Fields NC on the southern end of the Blue Ridge Parkway. At Graveyard fields the colors were so intense they didn't seem real.
I'm looking forward to the rest of October and to exploring the landscape with camera in hand.

Highland Visions runs through November 3rd and showcases my images of the Virginia, Tennessee and North Carolina highlands. There is also a featured section of black and white infrared images of iconic Abingdon landmarks.
In a world of way too many images, and visual sensory overload, yours are a rare treat.
I get a sense of peace and almost rapture when I see your pictures. They are so well done that the experience of viewing the work takes me out of the mess of millions of almost good images into a realm of peace.
