Just Think Outside
...the place for creativity
Greetings!

Snow.  There is something special about being outside during, and just after, it snows.

I love jogging during a snowstorm.  The falling snow quiets the world around you and even your footsteps land softly.

I also love heading out with my camera after it snows.  The muted colors of winter are transformed into a snowglobe's world of white.  I recently travelled to Blue Hole Falls to do some "snow" photography.

We've had several snowstorms in N.E. Tennessee and I'm hoping for a few more opportunities to head outside and into the snow before spring.

A Sense of Solitude

The man who follows the crowd will usually get no further than the crowd. The man who walks alone is likely to find himself in places no one has ever been.

Since the temperature had been well below freezing for several weeks I decided to travel to Blue Hole Falls near Elizabethton Tennessee with the hope of finding them covered with ice and snow.

I was in luck.  I donned my ice crampons and used my ice ax to make my way down the slick rocks of the first waterfall at Blue Hole.  Once I got to the edge of the stream I turned to my right and saw the waterfall in front of me and huge icicles were hanging from the wall to the right.

It was an incredibly beautiful scene.  A light snow was falling, the only sound I could hear was the roar of the falls, and ice and snow coated the world around me.  Wow was the only word that came to mind.

I made my way toward the falls while climbing several feet up toward the icicles so I could use them to frame the scene.  I balanced my tripod on the snow-covered rocks and took this image which was my favorite of the day.

I took several more images of the waterfalls and then spent a few quiet moments enjoying the beauty of my surroundings before leaving Blue Hole.
