Newsletter
Greetings!

Welcome to your latest issue of the Interview Expert newsletter. We are now sending the newsletter on a regular bi-weekly basis so remember to check your inbox every two weeks for your latest issue!

Every issue explores the key elements of a successful job interview and strategic job search techniques - so you can master your skills and land the job you really want!

In this issue we explore how you can use blogging to position yourself as an expert instead of "just another job candidate".

Blog your way to your next job:  Part 1
You've developed a personal branding statement, a powerful "tell me about yourself" introduction and crisp, colorful supporting stories. Now, how do you build on that synergy to capitalize on every opportunity for landing the job you really want?

It's simple. Blog. Blog about what you know best: your area of expertise and how you can solve its problems.

Why Blog?

  • Blogging is an easy way to position yourself as an expert. In addition, your supporting stories solidify your credibility by showing that you're familiar with the problems in your area of expertise and have solutions that work.
  • Other job seekers aren't blogging, they're using traditional job search strategies.  This gives you the huge advantage of being more than "just another job candidate". By blogging about your experiences and successes, organizations can see you as a key component to helping them solve the challenges they face.
  • For those at mid-career level, blogging is a subtle yet powerful way of showing that you embrace new technology and can use it appropriately and to your best advantage.
  • Best of all, when you blog, you'll remember who you are: a solid expert in your field. Blogging boosts your motivation and confidence, helping you see how you're the perfect hire for the right organization. With such a positive attitude, you'll be actively engaged in your job search and open to any opportunities that come your way.
What to blog about
You already know about the problems the organizations you've targeted are facing through the research you did to develop your personal branding statement and "tell me about yourself" introduction. So, use that information and blog about those issues - and your solutions to those problems.
  • Start by creating at least three articles that focus on the organizational problems you can resolve. For example, if you help organizations use customer service to connect to every client, every day, in a positive way, blog about:
    • The specific ways in which organizations can solve their customer experience issues. Sum it up as "Top 3 Ways to Maximize Your Customers' Service Experience - Today!"
    • The pitfalls of various customer service solutions: "Why Your Best Customer Service Solution Worked Only Once"
    • Their "pain" and the ways you can help resolve it: "Why Most Customer Service Solutions Fail - And What You Can Do About It"
  • Then, add impact by using your supporting stories as real life examples of how to solve each problem.
  • Make your blog posts content-rich and as lengthy as you can. (The marketing world calls this long-copy and it's used for unsolicited direct mail. Send your articles to your network and others such as the person who could hire you at your targeted companies, just as you might a direct mail piece.)
  • Add charts or graphs where appropriate. They really make you stand out as an expert.

But Heather, I'm not a writer!
That's no problem. Did you get help to write your resume? Of course you did. Write your three posts, doing the best you can. Then, hire an experienced freelance editor to clean it up, tighten it up and make it sharp. If you can't find a professional editor, send me an email and I'll give you the names of the talented writers and editors I use.

In the next issue Blog Your Way To Your Next Job: Part 2, I'll make it easy for you to get started. I've put together all the details you'll need to get your blog up and running easily, efficiently and effectively. You'll soon expand the synergistic effect of using your branding statement, introduction statement and stories through your blog so that you can land that job!

If you need these details sooner, send me an email at [email protected] and I'll send them along.
