Matsuri T-shirts: Order This Week Only
| Celebrate the Year of the Dragon
with a Custom Fox Mill Matsuri T-Shirt
T-shirts cost $10 each and are available in both youth and adult sizes. All t-shirt orders must be completed by Friday, April 13. Orders must be placed online and checks sent to the school to pay for the order for an order to be complete. No orders will be accepted after Friday, April 13. No t-shirts will be sold at a later time.
 The t-shirt is 100 percent cotton and is gray. The green dragon design on the back of the t-shirt was designed by Sixth Grader Solomon Blackmon. Thanks to Solomon for providing a great design to celebrate the year of the dragon.
The kanji character says "dragon". The front of the t-shirt says "Fox Mill Elementary Matsuri" in honor of the Japanese Festival on May 5.
T-shirts must be ordered by Friday, April 13.
please be sure to put the grade and homeroom teacher of your oldest student at Fox Mill in the comments section. The homeroom teacher is the teacher that your child had at the beginning of the day at the start of the school year.
After ordering, you must then send a check to school in an envelope marked "PTA t-shirt". Your order will not be complete until a check is sent to school.
T-shirts will be delivered in the Tuesday packets on May 1.

| Japanese Festival Ticket Orders Due April 24 | |
7th Annual Matsuri
Friday, May 4, 6-9 p.m.
Fox Mill Elementary School
 All Fox Mill families are welcome to attend the 7th annual Matsuri (Japanese Festival) on Friday, May 4. Activities include live performances by karate and kendo dojos, karaoke, and traditional Japanese games and crafts. There will be Japanese food samples and a craft fair with hand-made Japanese-inspired items. We will conclude the evening with everyone participating in a traditional folk dance! Ticket & Meal Orders accepted until Tuesday, April 24, or until sold out. No tickets sold at the door.
Admission and Activity Wristbands Adults and children age 3 and older must pay general admission. Children wishing to play games and do craft activities must purchase an activity wristband (admission included). Only a limited number of children's activity wristbands are available and often sell out before the deadline, so buy yours now!
General Admission: $2.00 per person. Admission price includes food samples and cultural performances.
Children's Activity Wristband (includes cost of General Admission): $5.00 per person. Activity wristband includes traditional crafts and games, game prizes, food samples, and cultural performances.
All students must be accompanied by an adult, no drop-offs. T-shirts, and activity and meal tickets are sent home with students in Tuesday packets on May 1.
Meal InformationMeals will be catered by Hama Sushi Japanese Restaurant in Herndon. Meals and sushi orders must be pre-ordered! No meals or sushi will be available for purchase the night of the festival. Meals served warm from the kitchen and pre-ordered sushi can also be picked up from the kitchen from 6 to 8 p.m. (A 12 oz. bottle of water is included with each meal or sushi order.) The Japanese Festival Planning Committee is seeking parent volunteers to work shifts during the festival. We welcome volunteers from all classes; you do not have to speak Japanese to volunteer.

Kindergarten Families Invited to Donate Food in April
All kindergarten students will participate in the Kids Helping Kids program on Friday, April 27. Families with kindergarteners are invited to donate food items by Tuesday, April 24.

PTA Speaker on April 10

Penny McConnell, Director of Food and Nutrition Services for FCPS, will be coming to April 10th's PTA meeting to talk about how FCPS provides healthy school lunches. There will be a 10-minute video followed by questions and answers. This presentation will start at 7 p.m. The business part of the meeting will take place after the presentation.

Sports Spectacular on Mondays

Monday Afternoon Sports
Coming to Fox Mill this Spring
Two Monday afternoon athletics programs start this April. Classes will be offered outside on the fields from April 16 to June 4. There will be no classes on the Memorial Day weekend. Classes will start at 1 p.m. and end at 2 p.m. The cost for all seven classes is $70. Grades K-3 will enjoy a variety of games each week with Sports Spectacular. Grades 4-6 will have fun playing Flag Football.

Dance Classes on Mondays

The PTA will be offering dance classes in ballet and hip hop after school on Mondays in the cafeteria starting Monday, April 16. The 8-week program runs from April 16 to June 11. (No class will be held on May 28, Memorial Day). The class schedule is:
3:30 to 4:15 p.m. Ballet: Grades 3-6
4:25 to 5:10 p.m. Hip Hop (All Grades)
5:15 to 6:00 p.m. Ballet: Grades K-2
Cost
One class per week (Ballet or Hip Hop) for eight weeks = $80
Discount: Take Ballet AND Hip Hop = $140
If you plan to participate in the dance program, send completed permission forms, registration forms, and checks payable to dance instructor, Nancy Sage, to the Fox Mill Elementary School front office prior to April 16.

Spring Art Club on Wednesdays
|  Art Club for students in Grades 4-6 will start on April 18 and will run after school on Wednesdays from 3:30 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. until May 23.

Kindergarten Orientation on April 23

Kindergarten Orientation/Registration
for the 2012 - 2013 School Year
Fox Mill Elementary School will hold an orientation/registration meeting for parents of incoming kindergarten students on Monday, April 23, at 1:30 p.m. in the school cafeteria. Children must be five years old by September 30, 2012 to attend this fall's kindergarten.
We are sure you have many questions about the kindergarten year and your child's enrollment. We will try to answer all of your questions at our orientation meeting in April. We look forward to seeing you there. This meeting is for parents only.
Please return a "Survey of Preschool Children" by Friday, March 30, 2012. Click here to open the form or it can be picked up in the school office.
Upon receipt of your completed survey, the school office will then forward the necessary school registration paperwork to you before the April 23 meeting. While we hope to handle most registrations at the orientation, you may register your new student at any time. However, it is recommended that you please call ahead to 703-262-2700 to make sure our registrar, Barbara Mehm, is in.
