Fox Prints February 20
Message from the Principals
Dear Parents,
On Friday evening, March 2, Fox Mill ES will be participating in the annual Tri-School GO Tournament at Fox Mill Elementary. The tournament consists of children from Fox Mill and Great Falls Elementary Schools. Students from each school who are in grades from kindergarten through sixth will compete against each other at similar grade levels in First Capture GO. The level winners will then compete for the Tri-School Championship! The two schools have Japanese partial-immersion programs and take turns hosting. However, GO teams consist of both JI and non-JI students. Come and cheer on Fox Mill!
While we just passed the mid-point of this school year, our office staff is working on plans to assist with the registration of our new kindergarten students this coming fall. Our school will be holding kindergarten registration on Monday afternoon, April 23, at 1:30 p.m. Students who will be five years of age on or before Sept. 30, 2012 are encouraged to be registered that day at our "Kindergarten Round-Up". Please contact Mrs. Mehm, our school registrar, if you have any questions. She can be contacted at 703-262-2700.
If you are parking your car on the street at dismissal, please remember to park a minimum of twelve feet from corners and crosswalks. Our patrols have a difficult time seeing approaching cars if parked cars block their vision of oncoming traffic. When the temperature drops below 25 degrees, patrols stationed at street intersections will not be at their posts. If you have a concern with a patrol's performance, we ask that you direct your comments to school administrators and not directly to the patrols.
Sincerely,
Pat Sheehy Brian Moose
Principal Assistant Principal

The cost for the program is $106. The program fee includes one runner tee shirt, one buddy runner tee shirt, a timed 5K event, a numbered bib for each child running, an end of race celebration and a participation medal.
Linam Sensei and Ms. Krukowski will be the team coaches, but they will need help. Parents will be required to help out with at least one training session between March and May.
Safety will be the first priority. Anyone acting in a way that may cause injury to themselves or others will be pulled from the session. No bullying will be tolerated. Disrespectful and inappropriate behavior will result in removal from the program without a refund.
All runners must have a labeled water bottle, appropriate shoes and clothing for the activity and weather. Anyone without water will not be allowed to run.
To register for this program you must complete two forms. Click here to open the waiver and click here to open the health history form or go to foxmillpta.com/programs/running-with-the-stars for both forms. Complete both the waiver and health history form and send them to school. As soon as your student is admitted to the program, payment will become due and must be paid by the first session.
Please note, this program was intended to be a two-day program, but we did not get enough coaches. The PTA is offering the program at a slightly reduced rate to reflect that Running with the Stars will only meet once a week.

Box Tops Contest in March
|
The PTA will be awarding THREE ice cream parties to the classes collecting the most Box Tops coupons during the month of March. One party will be held for a class from grades K-2, one from grades 3-4, and one from grades 5-6.
Box Tops coupons are worth 10¢ each when our school redeems them from Box Tops for Education. Last year, our school has earned over $2,000 from Box Tops for Education. We would like to DOUBLE this amount, and so far we have raised $1,400.
Participation is easy. Clip the coupons off the products you regularly buy and send them in to your child's class by March 31. Box Tops fit nicely into plastic baggies for easy transport to school or can be taped to a collection sheet. Click here for a link to a winter collection sheet. When sending in Box Tops, please make sure the expiration dates are visible and that the coupons are not expired.
Get friends and relatives to join the fun and cut coupons for you! Remember, at the end of the contest period, the three classes with the most Box Tops collected will get an ice cream party! For more information about the Box Tops for Education program and a complete list of where Box Top Coupons can be found, go to www.boxtops4education.com.
If you have any questions or would like to help count the Box Tops at the end of the contest period, please contact Tracey Spencer at tspencer@spencerhomes.net or 703-787-6982.

Parent Survey in March
|
Your Views and Opinions Are Important to Us!
This spring a random sample of Fox Mill Elementary parents will receive the Parent Opinion Survey. This survey is part of the Performance Assessment and Evaluation Process and offers parents an opportunity to provide anonymous input about various issues related to our school. These issues include safety, parent involvement, curriculum, communications, and expectations for student achievement and behavior.
The survey will arrive in the mail in early March 2012 and should be returned directly to the Fairfax County Public Schools' Office of Student Testing for processing. If you receive a copy of the Parent Opinion Survey, please take a few minutes to complete and return the survey. Your opinions matter.
