Fox Prints January 9
Message from the Principals
Dear Parents,
We hope that all members of our school community enjoyed a safe and joyful holiday. As we begin the new calendar year, we extend wishes for a healthy and happy 2012!
Twenty-two Fairfax County public schools received the 2012 Governor's Award for Educational Excellence, a recognition of schools that have met all state and federal achievement benchmarks for at least two consecutive years and, for elementary schools, have also achieved excellence goals for elementary reading. I am very proud to report that Fox Mill Elementary has again received the Governor's Award for Educational Excellence. Congratulations to Fox Mill students and staff!
A letter detailing opportunities in Fairfax County's optional foreign language programs for students entering kindergarten or first grade this coming fall was sent home recently with all our kindergarten students. Copies of this letter are available in the school office. Online registration began on Jan. 3. The deadline to register for one of the first grade partial immersion programs is Feb. 1. Parents are encouraged to attend one the informational meetings on the foreign language programs prior to registering their child. The Japanese Partial Immersion informational meeting will be held on Thursday, Jan. 19 at 7 p.m. in the Fox Mill cafeteria. The snow date is Jan. 26. Our Japanese Immersion classroom observation will be on Feb. 8, from 9:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. For more information visit http://www.fcps.edu/DIS/OHSICS/forlang/partial.htm.
It seems that once the weather starts turning colder, our numbers of tardy students increase each morning. Please insure that your children arrive at school by 8:30 a.m. Walking into class after instruction has begun is not only disruptive to the entire class but also is a stressful way for your child to start his or her day. Please make getting your child or children to school by 8:30 a.m. everyday a New Year's resolution. Leaving five to ten minutes earlier will also make the traffic flow much less dangerous in front of the school. At dismissal, cars should not be left unattended in the Kiss and Ride lane. When stopping in this lane, please pull up as closely as possible to the car ahead of you.
Please remember that we have a school holiday on Monday, Jan. 16 in honor of Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday.
Sincerely,
Pat Sheehy Brian Moose
Principal Assistant Principal

Dining for Dollars: Lucia's Jan. 12
|
For the cold weather, Dining for Dollars escapes to Bella Italia!
Thursday, January 12
If you can't enjoy those warm Mediterranean breezes this January, at least enjoy some pizza or pasta at Lucia's Italian Ristorante this Thursday, Jan. 12. You will be raising money for Fox Mill at the same time.
Click here or go to foxmillpta.com for a flyer. Simply bring in the flyer, and 20% of the money from your order will be given to Fox Mill PTA. This offer is good at lunch or dinner, dine in, or take out (but not delivery). You must bring in the flyer and present it when you pay.
Feel free to give copies of the flyer to friends and neighbors, but our friends (and future Fox Mill ES family) who own Lucia's asks that we not hand out flyers to their customers in or near the restaurant. If you have questions, e-mail Marc Rigas at rigasm@me.com.
