Message from the Principals

Dear Parents,

We had a great community gathering at our annual PTA Holiday Secret Shop and Craft Fair on Saturday, Dec. 3. It was a wonderful opportunity for children as well as adults to come and buy gifts for their family and friends. We would like to thank Mrs. Heather Young, Mrs. Barbara Mason, Mrs. Sheri Zimmerman, and Mrs. Nicole Lynch for organizing this event.

The New Year is the most important holiday of the Japanese calendar. One Japanese tradition is to have a New Year pine decoration, called Kadomatsu, in the front of the house from beginning to mid-January. A beautiful Kadomatsu has already been welcoming our students and school community in our front lobby. We would like to thank the Japanese Culture Committee for this lovely arrangement and for the showcase display.

During these cold winter days we want to thank the parent volunteers for providing hot chocolate for our patrols. When the temperature drops below 25 degrees, patrols stationed at street intersections will not be at their posts. Patrols are never permitted to direct traffic. If you have a concern with a patrol's performance, we ask that you direct your comments to school administrators and not directly to the patrols.

Thursday, Dec. 22, is the last day of school before our winter break. This will be a regular day with classes beginning at 8:40 a.m. and ending at 3:20 p.m. Our school office will be closed during winter break.

On behalf of the entire faculty and staff at Fox Mill Elementary School, we wish you and your family a happy and healthy holiday. May each of you enjoy the pleasures of the season and find time to simply rest and relax with family and friends. We wish you only the very best in 2012!

Sincerely,

Pat Sheehy                                  Brian Moose

Thanks for Kids Helping Kids
Kids Helping Kids logo fall 2011Thank you very much to the families with fourth graders for the generous donations of food for the Kids Helping Kids program. Extra food collected that was not used this month will be used next month. Any food donated that cannot be used by Kids Helping Kids is given to a local charitable food pantry.

On Friday, the fourth graders learned about hunger and assembled 100 bags of food for kids at another school to take home for the weekend. The fourth grade will participate in Kids Helping Kids again in May.

The third grade participates in Kids Helping Kids on Friday, Jan. 27. Families of third grade students, please check Fox Prints in January for information on donating food.

A huge thanks to the Fox Mill staff for their great contribution to the Kids Helping Kids program. Instead of exchanging gifts, the staff collected hats, mittens, and gloves for the elementary school that receives the Kids Helping Kids bags of food.

Laptops Needed
Many of Fox Mill's laptops are coming close to retirement age. If you work for a business, or know someone who is working for a business, that is upgrading its laptops, please consider donating them to the school. The school uses Windows-based machines and Dell computers primarily. FCPS guidelines require that donations be enough for a classroom set, so 20-30 laptops should be donated at the same time.  If you have any questions, e-mail Audrey Kirtland, Fox Mill's Technology Specialist, at aakirtland@fcps.edu.
Playdate and Leave Early Form
Click here to open a form that you can fill out and submit to the office if your child is having a playdate after school or leaving school early. Parents of both children are required to submit written permission for the school to allow a playdate. The form is also available on the PTA website at foxmillpta.com
