The final collection for the Boosterthon will be on Dec. 1.  All money turned in between Nov. 1 and Nov. 30 will be entered into the Boosterthon database on Dec. 1.

Please make all checks payable to Fox Mill PTA.  If you are using one check to pay for multiple children, please write the children's names, grade, and teacher on the memo line or on your envelope. Don't forget all money collected is TAX DEDUCTIBLE. Click here to print a receipt or go to  www.fcps.edu/FoxMillES.   If you choose to pay online, there is a $2 convenience  fee.

 Team Makers: Enroll Now!
We are glad to introduce a new after school program called Team Makers!  A trained facilitator will lead the children through planned team-building and problem-solving activities. This is a great way to get your Odyssey of the Mind groups ready for upcoming activities.

Typically an  eight week program, we will be offering three weeks in December to run on Tuesdays from 3:30 p.m.to 4:30 p.m. Students go directly to the school cafeteria from their classroom. The cost is $39 per student. The classes will be on Dec. 6, 13, and 20, and the theme is "The Great Treasure Hunt". Click here to open a flyer with more information or check out the program's website at  www.teammakers.com/locations/dc.

Right now, we are the only school in Virginia signed up to offer this new program!  Space is very limited and we are offering this as a pilot only to grades 2-6, with the expectation of rolling out more sessions the next calendar year. Spots should fill up fast. Online enrollment is now open, and the deadline to enroll is Nov. 23. To register, go to  register.teammakers.com/dc

 Student-Parent Surveys Due ASAP

Each year you are asked to complete the Student-Parent Survey (also referred to as the Federal Survey or Impact Aid Form).  The surveys were delivered via U. S. Mail.

If you have not already completed the survey, please turn it in during our parent teacher conference days, Nov. 7 and 8.  A desk will be manned at the school entrance (between the hours of 7:45 a.m. and 4:15 p.m.) to accept the forms. At that time, if you arrive without your completed form, we will have another copy available for you and will request that you take a minute to complete it while you are here.

It is extremely important that the school gets a survey back from each and every student. The school system receives much needed financial support from the government as a result of your cooperation in this project. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

PTA Reflections Reception Nov. 14
Come join the fun! The PTA Reflections program is an annual national program that asks children to express themselves artistically based on a common theme. The theme for the 2011-2012 school year was "Diversity Means..."  All the hard work is finished and the entries have been judged!  Now we will celebrate Fox Mill student's hard work with a PTA Reflections Reception.  It is for all participating students, parents, family, and teachers on Monday, Nov. 14 from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the school library. We will present certificates, announce the winners, and view all entries!

Kids Helping Kids: 5th Grade in Nov.
Kids Helping Kids logo fall 2011On Nov. 18, all students in the 5th grade will participate in the Kids Helping Kids program and will learn about hunger and assemble bags of food for local students in need.

The families of 5th grade students are invited to donate the food needed for the bags
and to volunteer to help during the bag assemble on Nov. 18. If you wish to donate, please sign up at www.signupgenius.com/go/kids143. Food is due as soon as possible and no later than Nov. 15. Donations are completely voluntary; all 5th grade students participate in the program regardless of whether a family donates or not.

To learn more about this program, see foxmillpta.com/programs/kids-helping-kids/.
Hot Chocolate Volunteers Needed
We need volunteers to serve hot chocolate to our Safety Patrols. Hot chocolate service will start the week of Nov. 21 (if it is cold enough) and be served through March. We only serve when the temperature is 32 degrees or below.

This is a great volunteer opportunity for those that work or have little ones at home and cannot be at school during the day. This is done before school hours, and siblings are welcome as well. Schedules are done on a monthly basis so you will know your day well ahead of time and can always switch with someone should you need to.

Set up is at 8 a.m. in the cafeteria; all supplies are provided as well as detailed instructions -- this is very easy.

Hot chocolate service for the patrols begins at 8:10 a.m. and concludes at 8:40 a.m. Clean up and you are done before 9 a.m.

Our patrols work very hard to keep everyone safe and happy while at school. This is our way of thanking them for all they do, especially when it is freezing outside. The patrols really look forward to this each winter.

If you have questions or can help with this program, e-mail Kerry Diederich at diederich9@aol.com or call her at 703-860-1808. Please provide your contact phone number and e-mail and if you have a preference of day of the week you would be able to serve. When e-mailing, please put Hot Chocolate in the subject line.
 School Out Early Nov. 23

Reminder: School will dismiss two-hours early on Wednesday, Nov. 23, the day before Thanksgiving Day. Students will be released at 1:20 p.m. This is the only holiday eve  that will have an early dismissal from school this year.

Holiday Secret Shop Volunteers Needed

Believe it or not the holidays are fast approaching and it is time for our annual secret shop!  Children shop for their friends or family from a huge selection of gifts. The best part is that the gifts are their secret, because 6th grade shopping buddies help our children select, pay, and wrap!  (AND NO PEEKING PARENTS!)

Where: Fox Mill Elementary School Gymnasium

When:  Saturday, Dec. 3, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Questions: E-mail Nicole Lynch at  nlynch_98@yahoo.com

Secret shop volunteers are needed to help with set-up on Friday. Volunteers are also needed on Saturday to help hand gifts to the children once they have made their choices. It is a lot of fun to watch them make their decisions, all on their own! This is also a great opportunity for older children who need community service/volunteer hours.

Volunteer shifts are:

Friday, Dec. 2 at 3:30 p.m., set-up

Saturday, Dec. 3 from 8:45 a.m. to 11 a.m., AM shift

Saturday, Dec. 3 from 11 a.m. to 1:15 p.m., PM shift

If you can help with set-up on Friday, or volunteer for a shift on Saturday, e-mail Nicole Lynch at nlynch_98@yahoo.com.
Father-Daughter Dance Register by Dec. 1
Fox Mill ES will be hosting its second annual Father-Daughter Dance on Friday, Jan. 6, 2012 from 7 p.m to 9 p.m. All daughters (kindergartners through 6th graders) are welcome with their dads or uncles or grandpas to spend an "Evening Under The Sea" as we dance to some great DJ music and enjoy refreshments and fun! Tickets are $15 per family by Dec. 1.

Click here to open more information that includes a registration form to complete and send into school with payment by Dec. 1. Or see foxmillpta.com/events/father-daughter-dance for more information. If you have any questions or would like to help with this event, e-mail Diane Swecker at  diane.swecker@yahoo.com
