Fox Prints October 17
Dear Parents and Guardians,
I hope you enjoyed the beautiful Fall Weekend. We're very excited about our first Boosterthon fundraiser! This has been one of the most successful fundraisers at our school. Thank you to Jennifer Bower and her team for all their hard work. The kids had a great time on their EPIC Adventure learning about Teamwork. It was great to see them interacting with our wonderful Boosterthon team. We were glad to see so many students involved in helping the school. We had over twice the participation rate of our past fundraisers!
We're looking forward to our upcoming events. GRACE Art has kicked off. Ask your children what they are learning about Native American Art. The Cub Scouts will be working on our Fall Landscaping project with help from Bernadette Boyle and Nikki Matthews. Registration has started for this year's Walk for the Homeless. Come to our next PTA meeting on Nov. 1 at 7 p.m. where a representative from Reston Interfaith will be speaking about the impact Fox Mill has on the organization. We'll also be hosting our annual Library Book Fair starting in November. Looking forward to seeing everyone at Pei Wei tomorrow night!
Sincerely,
Lorraine Mietlicki
PTA President

6th Annual Walk for the Homeless Nov. 3
| |
Join us on Nov. 3 as Fox Mill walks to help end homelessness in our community.
All proceeds benefit Reston Interfaith
The Fox Mill PTA invite students and their families, teachers and staff to walk together for an afternoon of community awareness about homelessness. This event is at the core of our School Improvement Plan, and helps teach our children about being responsible citizens. We hope your whole family will come out to support this important cause. Of the funds raised, 100% benefits Reston Interfaith, which receives even more funding from the Fannie Mae Foundation as a result of our walk. Over the last 5 years we have raised over $34,000 for Reston Interfaith, and with more families in our area affected by hard economic times, our help has been critical.
The walk is a lot of fun and we will some special guests and treats for the kids. We walk directly after school on Nov. 3 rain or shine! Students should bring signed forms with fee attached to their teachers by Oct. 28 to get their t-shirt for the walk.
Click here for more information. Click here for a registration form. Or see foxmillpta.com/events/walk-for-the-homeless for the flyer and form.
E-mail Bernie Boyle at Bernie.mick@verizon.net if you have any questions, and thank you for helping Fox Mill end homelessness!
It costs approx. $5,000 to shelter, feed, counsel, and help rehouse one single individual at the Embry Rucker Community Shelter.
Last year we raised over $6,000 .......WOW...let's do that again!!!

Fox Mill Kids Helping the Community
| Has your child recently done something to benefit the community? If so, we would like to recognize them in the next issue of "Fox Mill Kids Helping the Community" newsletter. Some of our past issues have included Fox Mill Kids who held a book drive to benefit needy children, raised money to help homeless animals, donated some of their own belongings to benefit a homeless shelter, and lots of girls (and boys) who have donated their hair to organizations that make wigs for people who have lost their hair due to cancer. Please e-mail your child's contribution to the community to Sandy Vigen in the office at m.vigen@fcps.edu. Photos are welcome!

Student-Parent Surveys Coming
|
Each year you are asked to complete the Student-Parent Survey (also referred to as the Federal Survey or Impact Aid Form). The survey will arrive at your home via U. S. Mail at the end of this month. Please complete all of the requested information and return the form to school as soon as possible, but no later than Nov. 4.
If for some reason your form has not made it back to school by Nov. 4, you can turn it in during our parent teacher conference days, Nov. 7 and 8. A desk will be manned at the school entrance (between the hours of 7:45 a.m. and 4:15 p.m.) to accept the forms. At that time, if you arrive without your completed form, we will have another copy available for you and will request that you take a minute to complete it while you are here.
You will be able to complete your "assignment" in the short turnaround time by preparing ahead. Your "homework" will be to research and gather the following information: COMPLETE work addresses (including street numbers and zip codes) and work phone numbers for both parents/guardians. And here's the best part about this early notice of the assignment's due date: You can start your research now!
It is extremely important that we get a survey back from each and every student. The school system receives much needed financial support from the government as a result of your cooperation in this project. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
