Dining for Dollars | |
September Dining for Dollars
Glory Days Grill
2567 John Milton Drive by the Fox Mill Giant
Fox Mill PTA is continuing its successful Dining for Dollars Program during the 2011-2012 school year. Dining for Dollars is easy; just eat at some local restaurants, and you will be raising funds for the school. We will be doing a number of these throughout the year. Usually, you must go on a designated night, and the school will receive a percentage of the total guest checks from Fox Mill families who identify themselves during the fundraiser.
For our first restaurant in September, you get a special bonus. The fundraiser lasts ALL MONTH LONG! Just eat at Glory Days Grill (dine in or take out) any time between now and Oct. 2, and Fox Mill will receive 10% of what you spend there (excluding alcohol). Simply ask your server for a copy of your guest check (not credit card receipt), hang onto it in an envelope, and we will ask you to send them to school with your child at the end of the fundraiser in October.
You can ask your friends and neighbors who eat at Glory Days to keep their receipts, and you can collect those. What an easy way to help Fox Mill! Click here to open a flyer with more information. If you have any questions, click here to e-mail Marc Rigas. |

GRACE Art Volunteers Needed
Are you looking for an opportunity to spend quality time in your child's classroom? Do you enjoy working with children? Are you interested in art or art history? Please consider volunteering with the GRACE Art in the Schools program at Fox Mill.
Each month we present a short lesson on a different artist or topic and allow students to create their own work of art. The lessons are provided by the Greater Reston Arts Center (GRACE). The kids love it and they look forward to seeing the Grace Art docents arrive in their classrooms each month. This is an excellent supplement to their education and a fun way to become involved at Fox Mill. No art background is required! Click here to open a flyer with more information.
Our first GRACE art meeting is Wednesday, Oct. 5 from 9-10:30 a.m. in the school cafeteria. Your child's younger siblings are welcome to come to the monthly docent meetings.
GRACE Art Topics for School Year 2011-2012

November: Leonardo da Vinci
December: Alexander Calder
January: Henry Matisse
February: Faith Ringgold
March: Cave Paintings from Lascaux, France

First Day Packets | |
A message from the Fox Mill Office Staff:
If you think you handled a lot of paperwork the first day of school, imagine how our crew of volunteers felt after organizing approximately 650 of those first day packets for our families! Our volunteers worked hard on this project and we could not have gotten it done without their help. A well-deserved thank you goes to: Tori Avila, Meredith Brooker, Gianmichel D'Alessandro, Cole Gillions, Jed Henderschedt, Kaitlyn Jones, Miya Konishi, Jake Krukowski, Lauren Linton, Spencer Malone, McKenna Meek, Ashley Mietlicki, Annabella Prezioso, and Nikita Sawant. Thank you, too, to Sara Vigen who helped support our staff by distributing supplies and other materials for us. These students donated one of their last summer vacation days to help us out and we really appreciate it. It was a nice mix of both current students and alums working together.
A special thank you to Mrs. Malone who not only gathered the volunteers for this project but also organized our tour guides for the new student orientation. |

Sign Up for Parent View | |
A message from Fox Mill Office Staff:
We hope you have already signed up for Parent View and weCare@schools (aka Blackboard). But if you haven't gotten around to it yet, now's the time. All of our teachers will be using this as a means of communication and it is important that you have access. You received information about this in the principals' welcome back letter. In case you missed it, click here to open it.
Please follow the directions given. The best time to come in and have your account validated is during the school day between 10 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. We can also help you during arrival and dismissal times but you may have to wait since the office is very busy at these times. A few staff members will be also be available at Back to School Night on Sept. 20 to complete your enrollment process. Again, we recommend handling it during the school day to avoid having to wait. |

Nonprofit Youth Organization Advertising
Once each year, Fox Mill Elementary School sends home flyers that advertise membership in nonprofit youth organizations. This year, these flyers will be included in the Tuesday packet on Oct. 4. The flyers must be submitted to and approved by the principal in advance. In addition, the flyers must be duplicated, collated, and ready to be placed in teachers' mailboxes no later than Friday morning, Sept. 30. Flyers may be placed in our brochure stand or on our community bulletin board in the lobby anytime during the year with principal approval. |
