Fox Prints        Sept. 14

Dear Fox Mill Parents,

I hope you and your students have had a good start to the new year. Our first PTA meeting is Tuesday, Sept. 15th in the Library.

Thank you to Susan Campbell, Maribeth Gulakowski and their team of student s and parents for welcoming new students to Fox Mill and stuffing the welcome packets. Also, I'd like to thank other parents who helped prepare for the start of school: Sheri Zimmerman-Volunteer Coordinator; Susie Dunne- Room Parent Coordinator; Lynn Carney-Membership; Jennifer Bowers-Kindergarten Bus Coordinator; Cindy Ragone-Cafeteria Volunteers; Nicole Lynch-Directory; Catherine Zimmerman-Fundraising; and Therese Howe- Website and Newsletter Editor.

Our volunteer orientation meetings are Thursday, Sept. 24th, from 9-10 a.m. and Wednesday, Sept. 30th, from 7:30-8:30 p.m. Even if you have been at Fox Mill for a while, please attend because we will have new information about safety procedures.

We have a few open committee chair positions: Kids Craft Fair, Field Day, FLEX Language Program, Safety Patrol Liaison and Hot Chocolate, and Corporate Programs. Please let me know if you have any questions about these positions.

Sincerely,
Nancy Linton
PTA President

And now, some news from our school administrators:

Our first week of school has been a great success! We thank everyone in our school community for making this successful opening possible. As Ms. Sheehy and Mr. Moose visit classrooms, it is evident that new routines have been developed and our students are quickly settling in.

The staff joins me in thanking the PTA for funding three Smart Boards at the end of the last school year. With the purchase of these and others over the summer, we now have Smart Boards in all K-4th grade classrooms as well as one each in 5th and 6th grade.

Due to safety concerns, we ask that in the morning parents drop off their student(s) only in the designated Kiss and Ride area. CARS ARE NEVER TO BE PARKED IN THE KISS AND RIDE AREA. We also ask that parents coming in and out of the parking lot have patience with the line of cars. We are very concerned about our children's safety and ask that cars not pull around waiting cars. If you park and walk your child to the front entrance, only cross streets in the designated cross-walks. Please do not undertake U-turns in front of the school or on the side streets. Also, it is very dangerous if you are using a cell phone while driving your car in the vicinity of the school while children are present.

Please remember that visitor/volunteers must sign in, wear a visitor sticker, and have permission from the office to enter the main areas of the building. Any individual not wearing a yellow visitor sticker will be asked to report to the office immediately.

On Tuesday, September 22nd, we look forward to seeing our parents and guardians attend our annual Back-to-School Night. We are requesting that children not attend since it is a time for teachers and parents to meet and discuss the upcoming school year. Your active interest and involvement in your children's instructional program is both necessary and greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,
Pat Sheehy             Brian Moose

PTA Fundraisers
Sally Foster logo Sally Foster now through Oct. 1
50% of sales goes to Fox Mill School
Our FUNdraiser is underway!!!! By purchasing Sally Foster's quality wrapping paper and items, you are directly supporting the programs, throughout the year, that our children have come to love and enjoy, while at the same time getting the gifts and wrapping items you need. It's a win-win situation!!!!! Our goal this year is $22,000 total in sales. Last year we made $18,000, so we're not far off. Plus, Ms. Sheehy has agreed to ride a tricycle around the school if we reach this goal. So encourage your friends and neighbors to shop Sally Foster either with you or online. Let's make this fundraiser ROCK!!!!!

You can place your orders with the Sally Foster sales kit that was sent home with your child last Friday OR you can order online at www.sallyfoster.com. If you order online, please be sure to include our school code so that we get 50% from your order. Our school code is: 0481779.

All sales kits are due by Oct. 1st.

Box Tops for Education
Box TopsLast year we earned more htan $1000 by sending in all the coupons that were submitted. Our goal is to raise more than $2000 this year. We will be running several contests throughout the year starting this fall to encourage participation and hopefully meet our fundraising goal. Please click here for information about where you can find box top coupons and START COLLECTING NOW! Contest information will appear in the next edition of Fox Prints.

Save Capri Sun pouches
capri sunContinue saving those Capri Sun packs because we will be recycling them and earning 2 cents per bag. We are working on a collection system for them, but for now just flatten them and store them in a plastic bag for turn-in in the near future. If you would like, you may also drop these packs off at Catherine Zimmerman's house (12905 Pinecrest Road) for storage until we have a collection system up and running.

Register Your Grocery Store Cards
One of our school's easiest fundraisers is the grocery store signup, also known as Armchair Fundraising. This is FREE money that our local corporations are handing out, just for having one of their cards. All you have to do is choose Fox Mill. It only takes 5 minutes to sign up, but it has to be redesignated every year. Last year Giant awarded us $1,300;  Oak Hill Elementary was awarded more than $8,000. Every card counts, so why wait!!!! Click here to sign up your Giant, Bloom, Safeway, Harris Teeter or Target card.

In addition, the flyers must be duplicated, collated, and ready to be placed in teachers' mailboxes no later than Friday morning, Oct. 1. Flyers may be placed in our brochure stand or on our community bulletin board in the lobby anytime during the year with principal approval.

We also are looking for volunteers to help with delivery on Oct. 30th and distribution on Nov. 2nd and 3rd. To volunteer, please contact Catherine Zimmerman.

GRACE Art
Volunteer docents visit the classrooms once a month to present a short discussion on an artist or art-related topic and help students create their own works of art. No art experience necessary. For more information and to volunteer, please visit the Fox Mill PTA Web site.

Silent Auction 2010

The Silent Auction committee is seeking volunteers to help solicit area businesses for donations of products and services for the auction, which is part of Family Fun Night. All it takes is a few minutes of conversation with a business owner or manager, after which you'll hand them a flyer with the details on how to donate. Sounds easy, right? To volunteer or if you have questions, please e-mail Therese Howe. Thanks!

Box Tops for Educations
If you would like to help count box tops please contact Sharon Barr. Help is needed at various times throughout the year.
If you would like to include information in the upcoming Fox Prints newsletter, please e-mail Therese Howe.
