Raw Milk vs. Pasteurized Milk

Chances are you have heard about the controversy

between raw milk and pasteurized. I know I was reluctant to even try raw milk, especially with the FDA, Department of Health and Human Services and Center for Disease Control claiming that pasteurization helps to keep our food safe and free of disease. After doing some research and testing the raw milk for ourselves, we have made the switch and now choose to incorporate raw milk into our daily diet.

Here are the pros and cons of raw and pasteurized milk.

Pasteurization:

  • Prevents milk from going sour; instead it will decompose and can not be consumed
  • Extends the shelf life of the milk
  • Kills off both bad and harmless and beneficial nutrients according to Dr. Mercola
  • Makes the calcium in the milk insoluble
  • Destroys 20% of the iodine in raw milk and causes constipation
  • Can cause milk drinkers to suffer histamine or allergic reactions
  • Inactivates or reduces the effects of active enzymes and elements in the system (click here to read more from the Organic Pastures website)
  • Pasteurizing the milk from low quality dairy farms allows milk to be deemed consumable (click here for more info)
  • Fed to animals causes nutrition deficiencies and infertility after several generations

Raw Milk:

  • Forms lactase enzymes when the milk is being digested therefore it can be consumed by many people who are considered lactose intolerant
  • Contains beneficial bacteria, enzymes (lipase and protease) and other living components
  • Can still be consumed even if it goes sour
  • Is easily digested and acts as a laxative
  • Products are highly pathogen resistant (click here to read more)

One of the important things to remember is that not all raw milk is created equal. When searching for raw milk, do your research and find organic, clean and reputable farms with pasture fed cows.

YELP ME!

Dedicated to Making an IMPACT on your Health.

GREETINGS!

What do you think of the new layout? Noooo, I have not changed my business name, although Hallford Health is the one business name that will encompass all my businesses (yes, I am starting three new businesses within the next two years I hope!). So I plan on using Hallford Health as a title for many things from my blog to this newsletter.

Please take some time to get familiar with the new layout, and then if you have any input for me I would love to hear it.

Hope you enjoy!

This is what I've been up to!!

me at sunol

I love to experience health in all forms, and my most favorite is family. It is what makes me tick and I'm sure it's what makes most people tick too, whether they know it or not! So since I am always enjoying my family and going to neat places, I thought I would share them with you each month and hopefully inspire some new ideas on how to spend quality time with the fam.

Waterfall

This is Sunol Regional Wilderness, right in our own backyard! They have an area called Little Yosemite that has gorgeous waterfalls, horseback riding and excellent hiking. All for $5, and an extra $2-3 per animal.

The waterfalls will still be gushing for the next month or two so don't wait too long otherwise the pictures above would be of an empty creek bed!

THE NO NO LIST
~Top 14 Additives and Preservatives to Avoid ~

Do not read this article if;

You are not committed to your health.

You think health can come in a box, can or processed package.

You think organic is over rated.

You think fast food is convenient.

You are only willing to make changes that are comfortable to you.

You are looking for the secret to health.

It is time to cut the nonsense and own up to the fact that most of us already know we should not be ingesting what is on this list, and yet we do. Why? Probably because of this excuse and that excuse....trust me, I've heard them all, or at least enough to encourage me to write something a little more abrupt than the average article saying "these are bad for you so don't eat them."

I hope you don't mistake my passion for this topic with ranting and raving, but since I am losing friends, family and clients every year at an alarming rate to cancer and disease for "unknown" reasons, every little bit counts. I know it may seem difficult and maybe even extreme, so if you need to take baby steps, great, do that. Just do whatever it takes to get this list out of your system before it is too late to rid your body of them. This is a great start to helping your body cleanse itself.

SPECIAL OF THE MONTH

medals

I need your help. I am redecorating my center and would LOVE to have some more memorabilia from YOU hanging up, in particular RUNNING MEDALS.

If you have medals from running races, then you know how great they are. If you have never run a race before and have seen how amazing some of these medals are, then these medals can be inspiration enough to sign up for one! I plan on hanging them up on the walls in hopes of encouraging others to take up running and even some races.

If you have any that you would like to donate to my center, I am giving 50% OFF ANY SESSION in exchange for a signed picture of you participating in your sport/event or any medals from races you have done.

Thanks in advance and KEEP RACING AND INSPIRING!

RECIPE OF THE MONTH

Pesto and Portabella Sub
Portabella Sub

After my first bite of the Pesto Portabello Sub at Dharma's Restaurant in Capitola, it instantly became one of my favorite meals. Ever.We have attempted several times to recreate this sub, using different types of breads and cheeses. And each attempt produced an equally delicious version of the sub from Dharma's. Here is the latest version of our Pesto and Portabella Sub.

Ingredients:

4 Freshly baked Francese rolls, cut in half and insides scooped out

         4 large portabella mushrooms

2 small red bell peppers, seeded and sliced

         4 oz. spinach

One medium yellow onion, thinly sliced

         2 cloves garlic, minced

Pesto (click here for the recipe)

Mayo (click here for the recipe)

         Mozzarella cheese, thinly sliced

         Olive oil

         4 T Butter

Directions:

1.      Begin grilling the portabellas and bell peppers.

2.      Meanwhile, saute the onions with olive oil in a small skillet until tender and lightly browned (you can also caramelize the onions).

3.      Saute the spinach and garlic with olive oil in another pan.

4.      In a small saucepan, melt the butter. Brush the butter on the bread, add the cheese to the top slice and toast on the grill until crispy and cheese has melted.

5.      Mix about a teaspoon of mayo for each 2 tablespoons of pesto and blend together. Make enough to spread on the bread slices (the amount needed will vary based on your personal preference).

6.      Once everything is cooked, you can start with preparing the subs: On bottom half of bread, spread on the pesto/mayo, next add the portabellas and bell peppers, then spinach and top off with the onions.

You can also add a leaf of romaine lettuce and a sliced tomato for some extra texture. And we highly suggest German Lowensenf mustard! J

THANK YOU for making my job my PASSION!

Sincerely,
