JSCA Happy Hour
April 7, 2011
We will host our first happy hour gathering at the Speckled Hen Tavern on Thursday, April 7, 2011 from 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m.
This is a great opportunity to unwind after a long day and gather with your fellow JSCA members to enjoy drinks (at your own expense) and free appetizers.

Exciting News from Nantes!
The Deputy Mayor of Nantes has given support of the creation of "La Maison des Etats-Unis" in Nantes, France. The house will be dedicated to the United States.
In other exciting news, our Sister Cities president in Nantes, Mariette Cassouret, says Jacksonville will host the World Championship of Twirling in August 2011.
The Nantes Committee is looking forward to all the wonderful projects planned for the future between our two citites!

JetBlue to Add Nonstop Flights to San Juan
 On May 19, 2011, JetBlue will commence the direct flights from Jacksonville to San Juan. The Jacksonville Aviation Authority is hosting a ceremony with the presence of Mayor Peyton to celebrate this great accomplishment. The ceremony will take place at the JetBlue terminal in the Jacksonville International Airport.
The Jacksonville Sister Cities Association is thrilled to be a part of the festivities. The San Juan Committee will be onsite with an informational table about JSCA.

Nantes student exchange
The Nantes Committee welcomes Mariette Cassourret and 10 students from the Talensac Science Academy in Nantes, France. They will spend two weeks in Jacksonville during the month of April. The students will be housing with Duval County Public School students. Their visit will be preceded by a visit of Jacksonville students in March. Dr. Joanne Davis will host a soirée during their visit and all JSCA members are cordially invited. |

Nelson Mandela Bay Trip to
South Africa a Success
After 10 years of successful cooperation between the Nelson Mandela Bay and the city of Jacksonville, the two sister cities agreed to further deepen cooperative relations during a trip to South Africa last November. Deputy Mayor, Nancy Sihlwayi said the relationship has proven to be very benefical for the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality whose customer care approach, human resources management systems and health care interventions have been largely influenced by the knowledge shared bewteen the two cities. While touring South Africa, Ron Johnson, Steve Manis, Tina Daniels and Brenda Frinks visited poverty stricken areas and donated toys to a daycare centre in a peri-urban area. |

Bahia Blanca Student Exchange (1971)
 In 1971, the Bahia Blanca committee coordinated a visit to Jacksonville for 47 students in Argentina. The students were greeted at Friendship Fountain by local families who would host their two-week stay in the city.
The Florida Times-Union article to the left was sent to Ginny Wallthour by Thomas Harpe who participated in the '71 exchange. Thomas came across the article while planning his trip to the 2011 Daytona 500 and looking through old photos. |

Duval County Schools ~Night at the Symphony 
The Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra and the Duval County Public Schools Department of World Languages have partnered together to bring you "Nordic Fushion," a smorgasbord of delicacies and music from Scandinavia.
Set sail on a Nordic adventure and enjoy Grieg's soundtrack to the fantastic folklore and raucous satire of Peer Gynt.

FSCJ Offering Arabic Language & Culture Courses
Florida State College of Jacksonville will offer beginner courses in Arabic Language and Culture this spring. Classes begin May 10 and last until June 21, 2011 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.
The classes are designed to help you read, understand and answer simple questions in Arabic, identify the Arabic Alphabet and counting system and much more.
