Planning is very early, but early word is there is a lot of interest. Stay tuned!

UNF Chamber Singers to visit Nelson Mandela Bay in 2012
One of Jacksonville's Sister Cities, Nelson Mandela Bay, will be a stop during a "Transformational Learning Opportunity" trip for the University of North Florida Chamber Singers as they travel to South Africa in May 2012 for a 12-day tour of the country.
JSCA Board member Dr. Cara Tasher, director of choral activities and assistant professor of voice for UNF's Department of Music, is coordinating the effort.
Students will encounter South African culture first-hand by visiting Nelson Mandela Bay, Capetown and other cities while performing repertoire from regions around the world, including North and South America, Eastern and Western Europe and Africa.
Students will travel through both large cities and smaller towns, with a focal point of the trip having students performing alongside collegiate choral ensembles based in South Africa. Rather than merely visiting landmarks, the students will experience another culture and its languages from within, heightening their cultural transformational learning -- and sharing the connection between Jacksonville and our friends in this part of the world. |
