Dear TAM Supporter,

Tomorrow's Aeronautical Museum is pleased to announce the 1st Annual Take-off and Fly High Campaign. As the year comes to an end, we want to thank you for supporting us in empowering our community youth to reach for the skies and their dreams. We would like to invite you to take advantage of this last chance to donate to TAM and further advance the efforts of the Aero Squad After School Program and receive a tax deduction.

TAM had an eventful 2011 thanks to the generous support of volunteers, donors, and our corporate sponsors and grants.

This is what we did at TAM and in our community in 2011:

  • Held TAM's first annual MLK Day of Service with over 600 volunteers.
  • Recruited ten AmeriCorps*VISTA Summer Associates to engage over 600 students in space, science, and technology in Compton and LAUSD, in partnership with the Dorothy Jemison Foundation for Excellence, Dr. Mae Jemison, and with the support of NASA's Summer of Innovation grant
  • Established TAM Youth Leadership Council (YLC), a new addition to Aviation Explorer Post 409 meant to provide high school students with leadership skills and in-depth college and aviation industry career exploration. Guest speakers have included naval aviator Lawrence Nance, environmental activist Cathy Lam and USC Aeronautics and Mechanical Engineering Chair Geoffrey Spedding.
  • Held Arts and Aviation Career Expo in partnership with Compton Unified School District
  • Organized Field Trips to Space X, Embry-Riddle Long Beach Open House, Columbia Memorial Space Museum, USC LA Times Festival of Books, Camping Trip, Pasadena Playhouse, FIRST Robotics Competition and Space 2011 Out of School, Out of this World Education Alley
  • Visited over 10 schools and events reaching over 4,000 kids as part of TAM's Positive Vibrations community outreach
  • Helped Aviation Explorer and YLC Secretary Keilyn Hubbard become the first TAM recipient of Learning for Life's Aviation Scholarship
  • Held first 9/11 Tribute Day of Service in partnership with LA Works and Compton Fire Department
  • Provided real-life applications to math and science with over 60 hours of flight instruction with FAA Certified Flight Instructors in actual aircraft to Aviation Explorers and over 300 hours of flight simulator and ground instruction
