9/11 Commemorative Flight with Aviation Explorer Alumnus and Private Pilot Kenny Roy
A 9/11 Commemorative Flight will highlight TAM's 9/11 Tribute Day of Service while volunteers continue with Part 2 of Operation Hangar Cleanup, which began on MLK Day, a backpack drive, and a walk-a-thon.
Kenny Roy, an Aviation Explorer Alumnus from TAM, became the youngest licensed African American pilot to fly a plane solo at the age of 14. Roy, now 21-years-old, obtained his FAA Private Pilot License and is currently in the Air Force as an aircraft electrician on the KC-135 and C-17 aircraft. Roy and Aero Squad Private Pilot and Fireman Dan Yessman will commemorate the losses exactly 10 years ago and honor the service and sacrifices of those who have responded since that day. They'll fly an airplane dedicated to Tuskegee Airmen on a 10-airport tour around the greater Los Angeles area to spread and continue the story of courage and heroism in aviation, firefighters, and our nation. At each stop, they will collect donations towards TAM's Aviation Explorer Scholarship Fund and a 9/11 Firefighter Charity.
