Tomorrow's Aeronautical Museum Welcomes the Summer Associates

Tomorrow's Aeronautical Museum (TAM) is proud to welcome the 2011 AmeriCorps*VISTA Summer Associates. This summer will be an exciting and innovative experience for TAM and the Summer Associates to its wonderful partnership with the Dorothy Jemison Foundation for Excellence and its NASA award winning project, The Earth We Share™ - Space Race (www.tews-spacerace.org).

The Summer Associates will be assisting TAM staff with designing and implementing new activities for the Aero Squad Summer Learning Program.

Our Summer Associates come from a diverse group of backgrounds and experiences; but each  one is here for the same purpose which is "to aid in TAM's vision for the future and fight poverty with passion!

Summer Associate Kathy
Kathy Tovar, Los Angeles, California, is currently a sophomore at California State University majoring in Sociology with plans to graduate in Spring 2013. Kathy's career aspiration is to become a College Counselor.  Her hobby is bike riding and she enjoys taking long rides by the beach.  Kathy wishes she could run as fast as the comic book hero Flash from place to place, that way she can be in different places in a short amount of time.
 Summer Associate Brenda

Brenda Ramirez, Bellflower, California, is a graduate of California State University, Dominguez Hills and holds a Bachelors degree in Liberal Studies. She enjoys cooking, hiking and traveling. Her favorite super power is the ability to fly for that will enable her to travel the world when desired.

 
Summer Associate KiraKira Watson, Los Angeles, California, earned her Bachelors degree in May of 2004 from UC Berkeley in Social Welfare with an emphasis on Developmental Psychology. She is an aspiring physician and her hobbies include traveling, reading health science literature, and modeling. She wishes she could have Storm from X-Men's climate control power  to combat drought, famine, and climate pollution.
 

Summer Associate JanmarieJemmarie Silva, Chino Hills, California, is currently a Junior at University of California, Riverside persuing her degree in Political Science/International Affairs with plans to graduate in 2012. Jemmarie dreams about teleporting throughout the world visiting Italy during the Renaissance or hanging out with joeys (baby kangaroos) in Australia without disturbing the space-time continuum.

 
Summer Associate Jose

Jose Quijas, Los Angeles, Califonia, is currently a junior at CalTech studying Computer and Electrical Engineering. One of his hobbies is robotics, a hobby he has been commited to since the age of 15. The one superpower that Jose wishes he had is the ability to read people's minds so as to prevent fights and keep peace around him.

 

Summer Associate WayneWayne Huang, Los Angeles, California holds an MA in communications from Cal State Fullerton. He enjoys hiking, camping, traveling, and photographing his adventures along the way. If there was one superpower he could have, it would be the power to time travel because he could tell short-sighted people of the past how their actions would harm people in the future.

 

Summer Associate MarielMariel Ross, originally from Bolivia but currently residing in Los Angeles, California is persuing her degree in Sociology from Cal State Northridge. Mariel loves pets: She takes care of four dogs and three cats in her household. She enjoys rescuing and caring for animals. She would love to have a remote control that pauses life so as to savour the special moments.

 
Summer Associate NaumanNauman Husnani, Los Angeles, California earned a Bachelor's Degree in Philosophy from the University of California, Irvine. The one superpower he wishes he had is the ability to read, write, and speak every language in the world fluently so he could travel anywhere and not get lost. As you may have guessed, he really likes to travel, but he also enjoys reading nonfiction books on history and teaching.
 
Summer Associate ZacharyZachary Kahn, San Francisco, California is currently a sophomore at Occidental College majoring in Cognitive Neuroscience. His hobbies include martial arts, reading, writing poetry, and hiking. If Zachary could have one superpower it would be the ability to locate anything he thinks of and have a perfect sense of direction.
 
Summer Associate SarahSarah Bradshaw, Thousand Oaks, California is pursuing a degree in Statistics from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo with plans to graduate in 2014. In her free time she enjoys reading, ballroom dancing, and occasionally long walks on the beach and romantic candlelight dinners. If she could have a super power it would be to not have to sleep so she could learn and experience more in her lifetime.
Tomorrow's Aeronautical Museum (TAM) operates a nonprofit flight academy, whose mission is to provide youth opportunities and resources in aviation and STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) as an alternative to drugs, gang violence, and other self destructive activities.
