North Forest construction

Office park breaks ground
A new professional and medical center has taken its first step to becoming reality; North Forest Office Providers broke ground Thursday on a 54,684-square-foot office project at Potomac and 104th Avenue.
 
The 104th Avenue Professional & Medical Center includes six one-story buildings. The first building is expected to completed and ready to open in December.
 
The developer has two office properties in the metro area: NorthRidge Commons in Westminster and Telluride Business Park in Brighton.

Derby open for business

Don't let the detours keep you away ... local businesses in Derby remain open for business despite the construction project that has closed the
intersection of East 72nd PlaceDerby
and Monaco Street. The intersection is being demolished and will be redesigned.
 
Derby businesses are accessible, although it might take an extra turn or two to reach your destination.
 
The intersection is expected to be closed for several months.
4th Fest filled with family fun
In Commerce City, July 4 means family fun, and 2010 is no exception! Commerce City is partnering with the Colorado Rapids to bring you its FREE annual 4th Fest celebration on Sunday, July 4.
 
Kicking off the day's festivities is a free Wild Walk (6k or 1 mile) at the Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge from 9 a.m. to noon. Pre-register by calling 303-289-0930; para espanol, call 303-289-0864.
 
Bring your family and celebrate the Fourth of July, 5-9 p.m. at Dick's Sporting Goods Park, just off Quebec Parkway at 60th Avenue. Family activities will be set up outside Rapids' stadium, and include everything from a climbing wall to crafts, entertainment and much more.
 
While families try out the inflatable obstacle course, mechanical bull and parachute decorating, roaming characters will entertain crowds. Main stage entertainment features a bicycle jump group, musicians and a mad scientist. The festival also features a balloon artist, face painters, food vendors and a beer garden, all outside the stadium.
 
End the day at 4th Fest by watching the fireworks display - the largest in Colorado - which will start about 9:30 p.m.
Dahlia bridge work done, but ...
The Dahlia Street bridge work near I-76 has been completed by Adams County, and Dahlia is open ... ony temporarily.
 
The city of Thornton plans to realign Dahlia and is expected to close the street in late July or early August.
 
Elsewhere in Commerce City:
  • East 72nd Avenue at the Union Pacific Railroad (UPRR) east of Highway 85 remains under construction for a sanitary sewer replacement project for South Adams County Water and Sanitation District (SACWSD). All lanes should be open in mid-June.
Blazing a trail ...
Construction has started on the Second Creek Greenway Trail and may be done by the end of summer or early fall. The 4.5-mile, soft-surface trail is being constructed in the open space next to Second Creek.
 
The section being built this summer begins in the open space west of Buffalo Mesa and continues south to 96th Avenue, where it will connect to the Rocky Mountain Arsenal National Wildlife Refuge (RMANWR) perimeter trail. There will be a loop north of 104th Avenue, and another south of 104th in the open space areas next to the creek.

  • Before you head to Buffalo Run for your Sunday round of golf, make sure you call ahead as there are limited tee times available in the afternoon.
  • Remember that the Bison Grill at Buffalo Run is open daily, 7 a.m.-9 p.m.

Field dedication set for park
The city will honor longtime resident Chuck Ingram for his volunteer work in youth sports programs with the June 26 dedication of Chuck Ingram Field, the fourth baseball/softball field at Pioneer Park.
 
Commerce City officials will dedicate the field during a short ceremony at Youth Baseball Day on that Saturday. The ceremony begins at 9 a.m. and will include a short presentation, followed by unveiling of the field's new name. Ingram will later throw out the ceremonial first pitch on the field to start a softball game at 10 a.m.
