Economic development strategic plan

On Mon., April 5, City Council will have a final vote on the Economic Development Strategic Plan - a project that has been in the works since last June. The ED plan provides a vision for the city's economic development efforts over the next 5-10 years.

Visit the project Web site to review the entire plan and learn more about economic development in Commerce City. You can also contact ED Director, Brittany Morris, at 303-289-3620 or bmorris@c3gov.com.
Participation in NLC results in federal funding requests

Attendance at the National League of Cities (NLC) conference in March may result in big dividends for the city in the future.

Mayor Paul Natale, City Council members, City Manager Jerry Flannery, Deputy City Manager Nanette Neelan and Intergovernmental Relations Manager Miz Cordero spent time at the conference meeting with several U.S. Representatives, including Ed Perlmutter and Diana DeGette. They discussed priority issues and prospective federal funding requests.

As a result of the meeting, Perlmutter, with the support of DeGette,

included two Commerce City projects in a formal 2011 Appropriations Funding Request, submitted to the House of Representatives and to several committees for consideration.

The two projects include purchasing interoperable communications equipment for the police department and construction of an on-ramp from southbound Tower Road to westbound Pena Boulevard.

If fully funded, the requests would provide nearly $2 million in funds, create new jobs, and impact the city's policing and overall mobility.

Council members said attending the conference would not have been possible without the support of Commerce City citizens.

DUI program coming to Adams City High

The Commerce City Police Department and Adams County School District 14 are co-hosting an impressive DUI education program at Adams City High School April 21 to 22.

The program, called "Every 15 Minutes," educates junior and senior ACHS students about the dangerous consequences of drinking and driving through hands-on role playing and mock events.
