Saint Cecilia Midnight in the Garden
Annual Museum Benefit Gala
Saturday, February 4, 6 p.m.-12 a.m.

Drawing inspiration from one of the Museum's most renowned works of art--Sir Edward Burne-Jones's stained-glass panel Saint Cecilia--and celebrating the upcoming exhibition Princeton and the Gothic Revival: 1870-1930, the Art Museum's annual Gala is an evening of cocktails, dinner, and dancing that is both a highlight of the Princeton calendar and a great way to support the Museum's educational mission. Set in the Museum and in one of the gems of Victorian Princeton, Prospect House, the Gala is not to be missed! Contact our events office for details at (609) 258-5013 or email jveerasa@princeton.edu.

Final Days

Installation view of Multiple Hands Multiple Hands: Collective Creativity in Eighteenth-Century Japanese Painting
Closes January 22

Collective creativity played--and still plays--a major role in Japanese art making. Multiple Hands explores the collective art-making process, focusing on workshop and collaborative painting practices in eighteenth-century Japan. Now in its final days, the exhibition offers an intimate look at paintings from the Museum's own holdings as well as exceptional loans from the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, and a private collection. Multiple Hands affords an important new perspective on Japanese painting.

Must See in the Museum

The Fifth Sign of the Last Judgment The Fifth Sign of the Last Judgment
On view in Object of Devotion: Medieval English Alabaster Sculpture from the Victoria and Albert Museum
Through February 12

Fifteen "last signs" signify the coming of the Last Judgment, as explained in a text attributed to Saint Jerome. In the fifth sign the grass will ooze with a dew of blood and all species of bird will gather together in fear. The scroll would have borne a text identifying the scene. Amid the surreal undergrowth flecked with blood, three men witness the terrifying omens. Around them congregate birds, including an owl peeping from a hole in a tree. Discover this and other masterpieces of English medieval sculpture on view in Object of Devotion through February 12.
Object of Devotion catalogue cover
Object of Devotion is accompanied by a 224-page, fully illustrated catalogue, available in the Museum Store.
