Communiversity this Weekend!
|
April 27, 2011
|
|
Communiversity is Princeton's one-day festival of the arts, hailed by TimeOff as "a festive, sparkling, spirited town-gown street fair brimming over with vitality, energy, and talent."
Find us just steps off Nassau Street--on the lawn in front of Nassau Hall near Stanhope--this Saturday, April 30, between noon and 5 p.m. Visit our activity tables and create collages; enter to win prizes at the membership table; and shop for art-related gifts. Rain or shine, Communiversity is free and open to all!

An Evening of Jazz
Thursday, May 5, 7-9 p.m.
Museum galleries
The Museum welcomes a talented jazz duo: pianist and recent Princeton graduate Julia Brav '08 and bassist Bill Thoman. Their set of classic jazz standards, accompanied by complimentary wine and cheese, will create a spirited setting in which to explore the galleries and enjoy a relaxing escape from school, work, and the pressures of daily life.

Standing in the ivy between Prospect House and McCormick Hall is a hollow sponge-like sculpture, Titan (2004), by acclaimed New York-based artist Michele Oka Doner. Oka Doner's primary interests revolve around the natural world, particularly fossil forms whose surfaces evoke both growth and decay. Titan marks a return to the artist's exploration of the human form in life size.

Italian Cameos
Engraved by hand in Torre del Greco, Italy, a special collection of exquisite cameos is available for purchase in the Museum Store in celebration of Lasting Impressions of the Grand Tour. To make the cameos, conch shells are carved into delicate works of wearable art depicting dancing Muses, the Three Graces, Venetian landscapes, Roman horses, mermaids, and portraits, then set in 14-karat gold or sterling silver to wear as a brooch or pendant. Prices range from $75 to $1,600; Friends members receive a 10% discount. |
