New on View

Head of a Woman by Domenico Beccafumi
Italian Drawings by Domenico Beccafumi

Currently on view in the European galleries are two rarely exhibited oil sketches by the Sienese artist Domenico Beccafumi (1484-1551) from the Museum's rich holdings of Italian Renaissance and Baroque drawings. Merging the practices of drawing and painting, these sheets and a finished devotional painting on view nearby provide insight into the working processes of this late Renaissance master.

Friday, April 23, 8:30 p.m.
Art Museum Galleries

Continuing the tradition of musical performance in the galleries, the Art Museum is pleased to welcome Mattin and Zeena Parkins as part of the Intellectual Property and Music Symposium. Each explores the ways in which music exists as "sound art"--Mattin, a Basque artist famous for his work with noise and improvisation, will open the show, and Parkins, a composer, multi-instrumentalist, and improviser who has toured extensively and performed with such artists as Bjork, the Tin Hat Trio, and Yoko Ono, will conclude the evening.

Admission is free and doors will open at 8:00 p.m. The event is cosponsored by the Art Museum with the Center for Arts and Cultural Policy, the Center for Information Technology Policy, and the Department of Music.
