A Collector's Legacy: Gifts from
Joseph F. McCrindle (1923-2008)
On view through June 13
Joseph McCrindle--founder of the legendary Transatlantic Review--was for many years a generous benefactor to the Princeton University Art Museum. At his death in 2008, he bequeathed to the Museum both an important collection of European drawings and an endowment supporting student internships. In honor of a lifetime of giving, a selection of his gifts--including a Netherlandish panel painting by Joos van Cleve--are now on view in the Museum's European galleries.

Mistress of the Arts: Music and Dance in
Madame de Pompadour's Versailles
Friday, April 16, 8 p.m. Art Museum Galleries
In conjunction with the exhibition A Royal Commission: François Boucher's Water and Earth Reunited, the Princeton University Art Museum, in partnership with the Princeton University Department of Music, is pleased to present excerpts from Les Élémens (The Elements), an opera-ballet composed in 1721. This unique presentation will combine music, singing, and dance, to recreate Madame de Pompadour's starring role in a performance for King Louis XV of France. With music directed by violinist Nancy Wilson and French baroque dance choreographed and performed by Caroline Copeland and Carlos Fittante, the project is directed by Wendy Heller, professor of music.
Admission is free, but reservations are required. Please contact the Art Museum at (609) 258-1860 if you would like to attend. |
