| After the turkey and the dishes are done, there's no better place to bring your family and guests this Thanksgiving weekend than the Princeton University Art Museum. Whether you are looking to show first time visitors one of Princeton's greatest treasures or just need a break from the hustle and bustle of Black Friday sales, the Museum is a great destination throughout the holiday season. |
Art for Families and Gallery Talks -- Last chance until the New Year
Don't miss the last 2009 edition of the Museum's weekly Gallery Talks and Art for Families. On the weekend of December 4th, the Museum offers a family program that centers on storytelling and a gallery spotlight lecture on fairies in art work. Sure to add whimsy to your weekend, this combination is a great duo to welcome in the season's festive spirit. |
Children of the Nineteenth Century
In conjunction with the course American Literary Traditions - Archives of 19th-Century American Childhood, important photographs by Henry Peach Robinson, Peter Henry Emerson, and Robert Redfield are now on view in the Kienbusch galleries. Redfield, a Philadelphian, devised a range of pictorial devices to compensate for the stillness demanded by his medium, showing children absorbed in reading, carefully blowing soap bubbles (as seen at left), and gripping their sleds against a snowy backdrop as if speeding downhill. Discover these glimpses into the forgotten childhood of the Victorian era. Explore the Museum's photography collection. |
Emerge! A Global Bazaar
Chancellor Green Rotunda,
Sunday, December 6, 1-4 p.m. Featuring crafts by artisans throughout the developing world, this annual bazaar celebrates global art and culture while also raising awareness of the many challenges facing these regions. Organized by Emerge!, a Princeton University student group, the bazaar aims to increase awareness on issues such as poverty, healthcare, and human rights. The Princeton University Art Museum Store is proud to participate in this endeavor and present its own selection of beautiful crafts made by artisans working with socially oriented organizations from throughout the developing world. We invite you to show your support and to get a head start on your holiday shopping! |
Friends on the Go
It may be the holiday season, but the Friends of the Art Museum are already looking forward to their spring trips. Mark your calendars for a trip to the Onassis Cultural Center and the Jewish Museum on February 18; a docent-led visit to some of the Philadelphia Museum of Art and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts on March 25; a new take on Manhattan's art scene via the subway and the High Line on April 20; and an in-depth view of Bucks County artists on May 11. Full descriptions and reservation information will be sent to members at all levels in January. If you're not yet a Friend, join now so as not to miss these exciting members-only opportunities! |
