Everyone in the household should possess a library card.
Why should you have a library card?
The American Library Association gives us a

smart. We'd like to personalize the list
by highlighting the extras we provide. At PPLS, you may take computer classes in our
business center, browse and purchase materials from the bookstore, participate
in our new Book Bites book club, take in a movie at our Second Saturday Cinema
and more!
Here at
the Pasadena Public Library System, we strive to offer you a variety of
meaningful programs and services. Read

It's Never Too Late! Get Prepared for Hurricane Season
Hurricane season runs from June 1st through the end
of November, and even though we have made it almost half way through the
season, we still have a long way to go. As anyone living on the Gulf Coast knows, mid-August through mid-October is peak hurricane season when the majority of
storms form. Don't forget, Hurricane Ike happened in September just two years ago. It's time to
double-check your supplies and make sure you are ready for another possible disaster. Pasadena Public Library is your place to go for hurricane
information. Stop by the Central Library
and check out our Hurricane Preparedness display where you will find hurricane
preparedness and evacuation information pamphlets in both English and in
Spanish. We have "Be Red Cross Ready" brochures with hurricane safety checklists and
information on returning home after a storm. We also have hurricane evacuation zone maps covering the entire Gulf Coast
area. The National Hurricane Center has stated that since 1995 we
have experienced an unusually high volume of storm activity. Information at the library can help you get
prepared and stay safe this hurricane season. Helpful websites: Further Reading:

Bestsellers, hot titles, and new releases - the Pasadena
Public Library has all the best selection of these books. Sometimes, though, what you are looking for
is not the most current title but a cherished classic to read. We have hundreds of classic titles to chose
from, with classic genres covering everything from romance to suspense, from
science fiction to political thrillers, and humorous fiction. In fact, we have a classic book to suit just
about anyone's reading taste.
In addition, Teen Central has a High School Reading section so teens
can easily locate all the books on the local high school reading lists. The Giver by Lois Lowry, My Name is
Asher Lev by Chaim Potok, and Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck are just
a few of the required readings by PISD this year. Not only do we have multiple copies of the titles
that students have to read, but we also carry Cliff's Notes and literature
critiques to aid with research papers and projects. You can even stop by to have a teen librarian
suggest titles to help college bound high school students get ahead. If you are just looking for a good book to read, why not try
a novel that has stood the test of time? There is a good reason books such as The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes by Sir
Arthur Conan Doyle, The Awakening by Kate Chopin, Brothers Karamazov by Fyodor Dostoevsky, and Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte are on the lists of the
best classic novels of all time. Still
not sure what to read? Get some
suggestions on classics in How to Read a Book by Mortimer Adler. Let one of our librarians at the public
service desks direct you to one of these popular favorites! So, even if it's not required - get inspired -
by a classic book today!
