SUMMER READING 2010 IS FINALLY HERE!
Registration for the 2010 Summer Reading Club at the Pasadena Public Library will begin on June 4 and end on August 6.
This year, the library is offering many exciting programs and prizes for all ages at both the Central Library and Fairmont Branch, with a Grand Finale Magic Show held at the Central Library on August 9 and the announcement of our special prize winners.
"We invite the community to visit Central, our Fairmont Branch or both libraries to share in an exciting line-up of reading activities and programs," says Library Director Sheila Henderson. "You also will not want to miss out on the great prizes! So, hurry in and sign up for the fast-paced and fun summer reading fest." The Summer Reading Club is for children, teens and adults, and our programs and services offer something exciting for everyone who participates. Event calendars are available at both library locations starting Monday, May 24. Reading Clubs include: "Catch the Reading Express" for children ages birth through 11. Coupons, toys, and special prize tickets will be awarded for every 10 hours of reading or listening. The more you read, the more you can win! Special performers will visit the Central Library every Monday starting June 7, in addition to the many other programs happening throughout the week.
"Within Arms Reach, the Future is Yours!" For Teens ages 12 through 17. To win amazing prizes, just read for 10 hours to qualify for your entry form. Stop by Teen Central for a variety of summer activities including special programs and open gaming, or just to use the internet.
"Read Across Texas!" for ages 18 and up. Read up to seven books a week for seven entries per week; listening to audio books counts, as well. Read books about Texas or by Texas authors and double your chances to win with two entries per book! All entries will be entered into our grand prize drawing at the end of the summer.
A Variety of prizes, both large and small, are up for grabs this year. Prizes and programs for all ages are funded in part by donations from The Friends of the Pasadena Public Library and local businesses. "Once again, the library has experienced marvelous support from the community for the Summer Reading Program," says Henderson. "We want to thank everyone who contributed these wonderful donations, and we invite you all to read and enjoy a fun filled-summer at your library."
Pasadena Public Library is your family's one-stop spot for a fun-filled summer full of reading and entertainment! For a complete list of all summer activities, visit the library's website at www.ppltx.net or contact the Central Library at 713-477-0276 or Fairmont Branch Library at 281-998-1095.

The Sunshine Reading Club for Seniors is Looking for Readers!
The heat and humidity won't get Pasadena nursing home residents down, as they seek out shady porches and comfy armchairs and read their way through the long, hot, summer and win cool prizes along the way!
The Library's Senior Citizen Outreach, which provides books and programming to senior facilities and apartments, sponsors the "Sunshine Reading Club," in which nursing home residents compete for reading prizes.
Three nursing homes, Vista Continuing Care, Paramount RHC and Faith Memorial, will participate in the Club for one summer month. The top two readers of the month will receive prizes furnished by local merchants and the FRIENDS of the Pasadena Public Library. All participants will receive a membership certificate, and, at the end of the month, a prize and Dedicated Reader certificate.
Colonial Oaks Assisted Living Center and The Courtyards at Pasadena nursing home will participate in the Sunshine Reading Club's "Hall of Fame," nominating lifetime readers from their facilities. These readers will win trophies, prizes, and a Certificate of Admission into the Reader's Hall of Fame. Senior residents of the Evangeline Booth Garden Apartments will participate, for the first time, in the Library's Adult Summer Reading Club, also reading for prizes.

 JUNE IS AUDIO BOOK MONTH!
Don't have time to read a book? Try listening to one instead! Every June, the Audio Publisher's Association (APA) celebrates audio books in a variety of ways, connecting with audio book listeners across the country to promote listening to books as an alternative to reading books. The APA claims that at least 25% of Americans listened to audio books last year alone, and we at Pasadena Public Library can attest to the fact that many of our readers request and check out audio books on a regular basis. You can now enjoy our newly expanded audio book collection! Check out newly released audio books on compact disc by popular authors like James Patterson, Linda Howard, Iris Johansen and John Grisham, or download audio books at home from Overdrive to your computer, mp3 player or I-pod. Enjoy audio books on your daily commute to work or while traveling on vacation. We have audio books and Overdrive audio downloads available for all ages. For more information, ask one of our staff members for assistance. |
