Spring is in full swing and that means summer is not far behind! The Pasadena Public Library System has been hard at work planning the Summer Reading Program for the whole family (yes, for adults too!) so start marking your calendars and getting ready to enjoy Summer Reading 2010. There are prizes for all ages, and we couldn't be more excited!

CLOSINGS
The Pasadena Public Library System will be closed April 21st in observance of San Jacinto Day.  We will reopen for our regular hours on Thursday April 22nd.

Kids Special Events Schedule
The smell of fresh strawberries is in the air at the library and we're starting to catch strawberry fever!

Buzz Berry Coloring Contest
All through the month of April, the Pasadena Public Library will be handing out pictures for kids ages 2 to 12 to color and then enter into the Buzz Berry coloring contest! Stop in at the library in the Children's Library at our Central Location or drop by the Fairmont Branch to get your coloring contest supplies!

The Pasadena Public Library is proud to host the FREE AARP Tax Help group which is providing free tax help to senior citizens and low to moderate income families on every
WEDNESDAY and THURSDAY until April 15th from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Please be sure to bring all appropriate paperwork with you!

Kids Story Time Spectacular
The Padadena Public Library is hosting Story Time every Wednesday at 10:30 at the Fairmont Branch and again on Friday at 10:30 at the Central Library. Bring out the kids for an interactive story time experience full of giggles and fun, topped off with a craft afterwards!



April 14 - "Going to the Birds" w/ flying bird craft
April 16 - "Ahoy Book Looters!" w/ treasure map craft
April 21 - "Dino-Stor-ous" w/ dinosaur craft
April 23 - "Farm Fun" w/ Old MacDonald puppet craft
April 28 - "Mysterious Adventures" w/ fingerprinting art craft
April 30 - "Bubbly Books" w/ bubble dancing activity

Summer Reading is Almost HERE!
We've got the whole family covered!
We couldn't wait any longer to start sharing the news!  Summer Reading is almost here to bring in all the relaxing summer days ahead.  Registration starts Friday June 4th and the last day to turn in reading logs and tickets for prizes is Sunday, August 8th.  The children's and teen's activities will start Monday June 7th and a calendar of events will be available by the end of May.  For more information, please call the Central Library at 713-477-0276.

National Poetry Month!

April 22nd - 4 to 5 p.m. in Teen Central at the Central Library

Is luck on your side? Find out at the Poetry Bingo Contest! National Poetry Month was started by the Academy of American Poets in 1996 and is held every April, and what better way to celebrate than to get together with some friends for Poetry games! Test your knowledge of poetry by going head to head against your friends during this competitive poetry Bingo contest for prizes.

Fairmont Book Clubs
Tea Time Book Club
Join us every 3rd Monday of the month at 3:30 p.m. at Fairmont Branch Library for our Tea Time Mystery Book Club!  This month on April 17th, the group will be discussing In Plain Sight by C.J. Box.   Want to get ahead in your reading?  The book for May will be Bookmarked To Die by Jo Dereske! 

First Monday Book Club
The First Monday Book Club meets (you guessed it!) the first Monday of every month at 6:00 p.m.  This month is Finn:  A Novel by Jon Clinch and each month the members choose a new book to read, so be sure to stop by for an engaging discussion!  Want to get a jump on the next book?  For May, they'll be covering Stolen Lives:  Twenty Years In A Desert Jail by Malika Oufkir
