David M. Grant Named Charles H. Flynn Humanitarian Award Winner

Valley United Way is very pleased to announce that David M. Grant is the winner of this year's Charles H. Flynn Humanitarian Award. It is the Valley's oldest and most prestigious award for community service presented annually by United Way since 1971. He has built a solid reputation for quality food and superior service throughout Southwestern Connecticut. He has also built an incredible reputation for community involvement. United Way Makes 3 Anti-bullying Grants 

With the opening of the controversial documentary Bully over the weekend, United Way's three Special Needs Grants awarded last week have a very timely significance. The Board of Directors approved the grants to local groups working on the issue in the Valley. Click here to learn more about what was funded.

Corporate Cup Making Participants Healthy 

You can keep up to date with the schedule, results, stories and pictures from this year's Corporate Cup by visiting the website. Many people are not aware of one of the great events held for Healthy Team members - 3 free healthy meals prepared by the culinary staff at Griffin Hospital. The breakfast was held on March 5, and the dinner was last Thursday. Lunch is still to come on May 9. The purpose of the meals is to show participants that food can be healthy and tasty at the same time - and the Griffin chefs show how to prepare healthy meals. The next event in the Corporate Cup is Orienteering on April 18. The site will be a mystery until the day before the event, but you can find out more by clicking here.

Red Cross Assists Fire Victims  

REd cross March was a difficult month with two major fires hitting the Valley in Ansonia and Derby. The Red Cross was on hand both times to provide assistance. Click here for the Ansonia story or here for the Derby fire.
