Joe Pagliaro Jr. to Return as 2011-2012 Campaign Chair

Joe Pagliaro 1112 Campaign

Joseph A. Pagliaro, Jr. has been named as the Chairman of the 2011-2012 Community Campaign for a second term with Valley United Way. Joe is the Senior Vice President of Edward F Adzima and Riverview Funeral Homes and has been an active community volunteer leader throughout his career.

Joe has been a member of the Valley United Way's campaign cabinet and Board of Directors for several years and is actively involved with many other Valley groups. He is a board member at the Valley Community Foundation, the Shelton Economic Development Commission, the Lower Naugatuck Valley Boys & Girls Club, the Birmingham Group and the Valley Division of Junior Achievement. He is also a corporator at Griffin Hospital.

United Way's theme this year is, "Be a leader and make an impact." Joe said, "We want the members of our community to take action in several ways. Such as by telling their friends about United Way, serving on Valley United Way committees, participating in volunteerism and advocacy initiatives and contributing so we can continue to fund needed programs and services in the Valley."

Valley United Way Allocates $532,000 in Funding

Valley United Way's Board of Directors has announced funding in the amount of $532,000 for area agencies serving the needs of the Valley community. Valley United Way's Board of Directors made the decisions based on the recommendations of the Allocations Committee, which reviewed the requests from the agencies. Twenty-eight volunteers drawn from all walks of life in the Valley spent a month examining budgets and visiting agency sites to learn more about the services being offered by the applicants.

Adrienne Cabral, Chair of the Allocations Committee, noted that it was an especially difficult year for agencies seeking support because of the stagnant economy and state budget concerns. However, she said, "The agencies were very reasonable in their requests, and the volunteers did a tremendous job in identifying practical and fair recommendations that will benefit the Valley community. I would like to thank everyone involved for their hard work and dedication."

Curtiss Ryan Honda Aids CPR Efforts in the Valley

On Thursday, July 14, Ed DeMarseilles of Curtiss Ryan Honda in Shelton presented Daun Barrett of the Valley Parish Nurse Program with a new Resusci Anne, a training mannequin used for teaching cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) to both emergency workers and members of the general public. Ed, the general manager at Curtiss Ryan, had coordinated the donation of the mannequin through a program offered by the National Automobile Dealers Charitable Foundation of which Curtiss Ryan is a member.

Ed contacted Valley United way looking for potential organizations for the donation, and Laurel Vicidomino made the connection to Daun and the Valley Parish Nurse Program. United Way has been collaborating with the Parish Nurse program for years, and has served as the fiduciary agent for several of their recent grants designed to make the Valley a Heart Safe Community.
