Volunteer Solutions Lists Opportunities

VACVolunteer Solutions is a free online service funded by Valley United Way that displays volunteer opportunities in the Valley and allows volunteers to interact directly with agencies that need volunteers. Volunteer Solutions is one of the easiest ways to find opportunities both locally and across the state at a multitude of different agencies.

Local groups are also encouraged to list their opportunities with Volunteer Solutions. There is no charge for the service, and it is very easy to maintain your listings. Please visit Volunteer Solutions by clicking here.

Valley United Way Accepting Youth Leadership Program Applications

Valley United Way is now accepting applications for the 2011 Youth Leadership Program. The program is entering its 22nd year and aims to develop teens into future community leaders. Youth Leaders learn about community needs that are specific to the Valley, the importance of nonprofit agencies and the role volunteerism plays in addressing those needs.

Applications are accepted annually from students who attend Valley high schools, or those who reside in the Valley and attend high school outside the area.

Valley Salons Cut Hunger

Panache
Diana Cirillo, co-owner of Panache Hair Design in Shelton, organized a food drive with other Valley-based hair studios entitled "Hair to Cut Hunger."

Cirillo is an active member of the Corporate Volunteer Council, which has provided additional support.  While she is very grateful to the salons who joined her, she is hopeful that more local hair salons will participate in future food drives.

Help Promote Awareness of the Earned Income Tax Credit

Since 1975, the Earned Income Tax Credit has been offering tax relief to low and moderate income individuals and families. In recent years, CT filers claiming EITC have received an average credit of over $1,800 on their federal taxes. Once again, United Way of Connecticut is working to inform and educate families about their eligibility for EITC and other federal tax credits.

TEAM, Inc. in Derby is the local provider of this valuable service, and they have done an outstanding job of saving Valley residents thousands of dollars. You can learn more about their service by clicking here.
