Holiday Spirit Pervades United Way
It has been a remarkable week at Valley United Way as Christmas "elves" arrived daily with gift wrapped presents for 95 needy families in the Valley. The elves are members of the Corporate Volunteer Council and the "Holiday Families in Need Program" is just another outstanding example of the corporate citizenship that we enjoy. Energizer Really "Cares"
The employees at Energizer also had an incredible week as they spent an afternoon in the community doing hands-on projects for a variety of nonprofits. They also announced the results of their 2010 United Way campaign - and they are #1 in dollars raised this year! We've got stories (and some video) about their incredible work for the community on the website. Click here for the "Afternoon of Caring" or here for the campaign.

Students Brighten the Holidays
Students in the Valley are sharing their holiday enthusiasm in several ways. In the picture above, you can see members of the High School Volunteer Council singing Christmas carols for the residents of Wesley Heights in Shelton.
Not to be outdone by high school students, Sunnyside School in Shelton conducted a coat drive that resulted in twelve boxes of coats being donated to My Sister's Place. Click here to learn more.
Members of our Youth Leadership Program also volunteered as Santa's helpers as Katie Scinto of R.D.Scinto held a special toy collection in the Corporate Towers in Shelton. The students had a blast while collecting toys and assisting Santa with the children in attendance.

Community Campaign is Strong
| BIC employees in action! |
The holiday season is upon us and Valley United Way campaign results are trickling in. Although the economy is struggling, many of our donors understand the needs in our community and are pledging dollars to help.
Over the last few weeks, we have seen some great results to add to those that we reported to you in earlier newsletter and the phenomenal Energizer campaign reported earlier in this newsletter. Spectrum Plastics Group of Seymour has reported an increase of 118%. With the conclusion of their auction pictured above, BIC has an increase of 25% this year!. The W.E. Bassett Company and Vishay Intertechnologies had increases of over 20%!
Other campaign increases were seen by the Ansonia School System, the City of Shelton, Birmingham Group Health Services and Julia Day Care!!! Sincere thanks to all of you!
