Youth Leaders Elect Co-Presidents We want to congratulate the new co-presidents of this year's Youth Leadership Program - Rebecca Sheehy and Tom Saksa.
Rebecca is a Senior at Shelton High School. She is President of Italian and Drama clubs and was president of her class for 2 years. She is captain of the varsity softball team and is noted as being especially hard working and persistent.
Tom is a Senior at Seymour High School. He is a member of the Student Council and National Honor Society. He is also on the Cross Country and Track teams.

Special Needs Grant Applications Now Being Accepted
|
Valley United Way has announced that applications are being accepted for its annual Special Needs Grants Program. This year, there is approximately $35,000 available for allocation for area nonprofits. The grants are meant to cover items that would not be part of an agency's normal budgeting process. Funds for this program have come from the Fields of Service area of the annual Community Fund Raising Campaign where donors have earmarked their donations to go to a specific field of service rather than to the general fund or a specified agency. High School Volunteer Council Begins 16th Year

The High School Volunteer Council is composed of members from all of the Valley's high schools, and they got together this week to begin another year of sharing volunteer efforts for the community. Find out more by clicking here.

Corporate Volunteer Council Honored
| Corporate Good Neighbors! | Birmingham Group Health Services presented Valley United Way's Corporate Volunteer Council with the Corporate Good Neighbor Award at its 31st Annual Meeting on October 20. The award is presented annually to an area group "For outstanding commitment to, and support of, Birmingham Group Health Services, Inc.
The Council has been very supportive of Umbrella down through the years running monthly clothing drives for My Sisters Place, collecting used cell phones and knitting blankets for victims of domestic violence. Most recently over 100 volunteers spent a week in September renovating the shelter for victims of domestic violence - the third time that they have done so through the years.

Leadership Greater Valley 2010
| Leadership Greater Valley 2010 | Leadership Greater Valley 2010 is nearing an end, and it has been a great year. Nineteen people are taking part in this year's program which is a joint effort of Valley United Way, The Greater Valley Chamber of Commerce and the Valley Council for Health & Human Services.
