70's Night Fundraiser Set to Boogie
Valley United Way 70's Night benefit will be held June 11 from 5-8 pm at Il Palio Restaurant in Shelton.   Attendees are asked to resurrect their retro wardrobes and accessories.  Tickets can be ordered online for $35 by visiting www.valleyunitedway.org and will be available at the door for $40. 
 
70's Night will include food by R.D. Scinto and Il Palio Restaurant and drinks by Cork & Keg of Shelton.  Harvey Wallbangers and tequila sunrises will be included with the price of admission.  
  
Silent auction and raffle prizes include a gas grill, 20 box seats to a Bridgeport Bluefish game, an overnight stay at Homewood Suites by Hilton, Latex Foam pillows and gift certificates to Panache Hair Design and Brookside Restaurant.

2009 Volunteers of the Year
Valley United Way celebrated volunteerism in the Valley with its annual Volunteer of the Year Awards on May 5, 2009 with a reception hosted by John J. Sullivan's Restaurant in Ansonia. An overflow crowd was on hand to pay tribute to the various award winners and to listen to their inspiring stories about volunteer leadership at every level throughout the Valley.  Click here to learn more about this year's winners.
There's Always a Need for Volunteers
Valley United Way is the  hub for volunteer opportunities throughout the region. Our on-line Volunteer Solutions website is an incredible resource for those looking to volunteer and for agencies needing volunteers. Currently there are over 50 opportunities with over 28 different agencies available through Volunteer Solutions. This is a completely free service provided by Valley United Way, and we urge you to take a look and to help us make sure that every agency takes advantage of this special service. 2009 - PerkinElmer still in the lead 

With only the 5K run/walk still to go, PerkinElmer is well positioned to defend their Corporate Cup title as they continue are the first to the 100 point mark for this year.
 
In the latest event, BIC walked away with the Horseshoes Tournament title. Check the story, pictures and video on the Corporate Cup website.

Next up in the series is the 5K run/walk on Wednesday, June 10 at Prendergast School in Ansonia. Registration closes Friday, and you can find on-line registration forms here.




Allocations Process Underway


The annual community allocations process is currently underway, and there are 30 volunteers visiting agencies and reviewing programs and budgets. When their work is complete later this month, they will be making funding recommendations to Valley United Way's board for action. Funding decisions made this month will take effect on July 1. United Way Distributing Prescription Drug Discount Cards
Corporate Cup MastheadValley United Way is pleased to have joined with familywize Community Service Partnership to help promote and distribute free discount prescription drug cards. In these difficult economic times, the cards can help reduce the costs of medications not already covered by health insurance. Many Valley pharmacies participate in this national program, and you can find the full listing on the United Way website by clicking here. The cards are absolutely free and may be requested by calling Valley United Way (203 926-9478).
