Do You Have a Story Idea?
You may notice we changed the name of our monthly e-newsletter. With the launching of our flagship magazine, Anchorage, we are renaming our family of publications to reflect our school identity and mission as well as our local heritage. The e-newsletter will still serve as your place to get the latest information on current school activities, student initiatives, upcoming school events and programs, and faculty achievements. Each issue of the e-newsletter is uploaded to our website for future reference.
If you have an idea for a story, please contact Juliet Wright at jwright@aacsonline.org. Your story idea may appear in a future issue, online, or in the next issue of Anchorage magazine. We look forward to hearing from you. |

AACS Now Offers On-Line Courses
AACS is pleased to announce that we are partnering with Sevenstar Academy in offering online christian education courses for 9-12 graders. Supplementing and strengthening our current course offerings, the on-line courses meet a variety of needs which include providing our students: 1) the ability to make-up classes or attend remedial courses such as summer school through a quality educational program; 2) more options for courses that the current AACS curriculum may not currently accommodate -- such as AP Art History, Chinese and Latin language classes, or a second-year Calculus class;Read More.
Preparing For Our Future (Near and Far!)
Excavation work has begun on fields at the Upper School that, when completed, will enhance our current athletic programs and are key components of our exceptional athletic complex which already includes two playing fields, a tennis center, and the Kilby Athletic Center (with its two gyms and indoor turf field). The project is a two-phased approach that will eventually provide for two full-sized fields -- a natural turf field at 330 ft long x 195 ft wide and a synthetic-turf field at 330 ft. long x 210 ft. wide -- situated directly across from the Kilby Athletic Center and adjacent to the new Tosé Family Tennis Center. Happy Retirement, Mrs. I!
On Sunday, June 6th, AACS hosted a farewell party in honor of Mrs. Jo-Ann Intlekofer (Mrs. I.). Mrs. I, over the course of more than 25 years, taught Earth Science, Life Science, English U.S. History and served a stint as the Middle School Principal for three years. Friends, family, current and former colleagues and alumni attended her retirement party to express their appreciation for a master teacher. It is impossible to list all of the ways that Mrs. I has impacted her students and the school. In recognition of her outstanding teaching career, AACS honored Mrs. I by naming her the inaugural Teacher Emeritus. This honorary position comes with lifelong free access to all AACS events, a permanent AACS email address at jintlekofer@aacsonline.org, and a plaque that will be placed at the middle school. Mrs. I embodies the ideals of AACS and has been a wonderful example to students, parents, and coworkers. She is a master teacher, and will be dearly missed. |

More Technology Coming to the Lower School
In anticipation of opening day, AACS is working hard to bring more technology to our classrooms. Supplementing our teachers' curriculum, projectors and audio visual equipment are being installed in six classrooms for our 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders as well as an interactive white board for the 5th grade. A mobile lab is also being added which will provide more flexibility in integrating technology into classroom teaching. Students are able to accomplish research, participate in the accelerated reader program, and study with "My Skills Tutor" , an on-line math program that focuses on math facts skill-based learning. |
