Pilates at Home
Pelvic Tilt Where the power comes from
- Lay on your back with knees bent, feet resting on floor or mat.
- Focus on movement within the pelvic girdle.
- Belly button to spine all the time.
- On exhale, tilt pelvis up, deepening the abdominal.
- Keeping the shoulders relaxed on inhale, tilt pelvis forward, keeping abdominals pulled in.
Repeat 3 sets of 10 repetitions. This stabilization exercise has the goal of postural alignment in the spine. Using the pelvic tilt in your everyday Pilates movement patterns will engage your core and increase stability throughout the body.

The Eight Foot Circle
By: Don Spence
The eight foot circle demands complete and total concentration and confidence. Pilates movement patterns with a focus on pelvic and scapular stabilization and disassociation of upper and lower extremities allows the Pilates student to fully embrace the eight foot circle. With each out breath, nimble fingers and strong toes propel the student upwards, with only the rope as the umbilical cord of protection. Eyes scanning for the next fingerhold that acts as a platform for stability the eight foot circle encompasses all. Each movement requires strong ligaments and tendons of primary joints and fantastic core stability that increases ones awareness of the eight foot circle. Pilates provides the wondrous organization of all the muscles and breath to achieve the safe accomplishment of a job well done.
Upon looking down at what was climbed there is great gratitude for the wondrous Pilates body that allowed the eight foot circle to be crushed without injury, cowardice, or lack of courage. Truthfully, Pilates is a most wonderful and effective tool to tackle the eight foot circle.

Pilates Mat Classes at Big Toe Studio! By: Marissa Lueders
Starting this January 4th, 2010, Marissa will be teaching bi-weekly
mat classes at the studio. They will be held on Monday's at 5:20pm, and
Thursday's at 10:00am. Cost will be $10 per class and packages will also be
available. There are many important benefits of incorporating matwork into your
Pilates repertoire. Mat classes will
enable you to continue your Pilates practice outside of the studio, as you will
learn exercises that you can do at home.
Equipment and matwork compliment each other by reinforcing the
fundamentals and basic principles of Pilates - flexibility, strength, balance,
coordination, control, breath, and mind/body connection. Pilates Matwork is a wonderful tool for core
strengthening, muscle balancing, and for maintaining and enhancing the
benefits that you achieve through your equipment work.
All levels welcome. We hope to see you all there!
