If the holiday season needed any secular justification for its existence, providing an opportunity for us to express our thanks and appreciation to each other and to our patients would most certainly be enough.
There are a lot of other good reasons: a chance to take a breather from frenetic schedules and a chance to be with friends and family. Beyond all the tinsel and trees and lights and running around it is a chance to understand the wisdom of what Hamlet said: "There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy."
Wherever you are going, whatever you are doing, be sure to take a moment and enjoy the wonders of the season, the joy that surrounds every day. Marvel in the lights that push away the darkness, whether from a tree or a menorah and, like the cowboy in the picture, may your star shine brighter this year than ever before. Create a smile on the face of a child or on a friend. And remember the joy that's inside is the best anti-aging strategy anyone ever developed.

| CRANBERRY, ORANGE, CILANTRO SALSA! | |
Back By Popular Demand
Seriously...one of the most popular pieces we have ever put in the newsletter is this recipe. The Doc acquired it in Santa Fe many years ago and it has become a staple during the holidays. When we first printed it several years ago we were surprised at how many people made it.
For those of you who missed it, here it is again.
1 red bell pepper
1 fresh poblano chili
½ cup sugar
¼ cup orange juice
2 cups raw cranberries, coarsely chopped
¼ cup chopped toasted hazelnuts
2 tablespoons grated orange peel
1/3 cup chopped fresh cilantro
Char red bell pepper and fresh poblano chili over gas flame until blackened. Enclose in paper bag for 10 minutes to steam. Peel, seed, and chop pepper and chili.
Mix sugar and orange juice in heavy, large saucepan over medium heat until sugar dissolves. Remove from heat and mix in chopped cranberries, transfer to large bowl, and cool to room temperature. Mix roasted pepper and chili, chopped hazelnuts, and grated orange peel into salsa.
Mix fresh cilantro into salsa before serving. Season with salt and pepper.
Makes a great dressing for post-holiday sandwiches.

LIP SERVICE
Our three-pronged attack on restoring and maintaining lip volume while improving those pesky lip lines (that attract lipstick like a magnet) involves:
1. Restoring lip volume with comfortable Juvederm XC (with lidocaine),
2. Maintaining the volume with daily use of Lip Plump by Skin Medica, shown to improve lip volume and coloration,
3. Using Clarisonic's OPAL (recently featured in the DESERT MAGAZINE) with the special serum twice daily around the lips.
If priced separately, these effective measures would cost $955 (based on one syringe of Juvederm XC, one set of Lip Plump, and an OPAL) but you can enjoy them until New Year's Eve for the low price of $825 (a savings of almost 15%).
