Greetings!
AWARDS (or why you should never believe your press releases...) Shortly after we opened our doors as one of the first true medical spas in the country there were a flurry of articles about us in magazines and publications from PALM SPRINGS LIFE to the LOS ANGELES TIMES and most of the edit made us out to be the greatest thing since sliced bread. Was I pleased? You bet. But we were still untested and still untried and I made it my mission to remember something I had heard years before: "Never believe your own press releases." At the end of one long day last year I checked my emails and found out we had been recognized as one of the top five Favorite Medical/Wellness Spas in the US in a Readers' Choice poll taken by SPA magazine. That was good for a lot of excitement and some hugs but the next morning we were back at it, harder than ever. Last week we found out that had been included in the list of top ten medical programs by SpaFinder magazine's Readers' Choice Awards. In the world. Yes we are humbled and excited and feel terribly blessed. After all, SpaFinder is one of the top spa industry magazines. In the world. But about ten minutes after celebrating we were back at it, trying to do the best job we could for another patient. I occurred to me that doing that was the best way to show our gratitude to everyone. Thank you to those who took the time to vote for us. We resolve to always be worthy.

When I was in the post office the other day I ran into a patient who had recently been injected by the Doc. "I can't believe how much better I feel after he's done his fillers," she said. "I know I look good so I feel better and have more energy." Sure enough, her skin and her persona radiated that certain something. While it's always gratifying to hear that a patient is pleased, what she didn't mention and might not even have realized was how important feeling better and having more energy was to her skin and to her overall health. Sometimes called synergy, it's what happens when the net result is greater than the sum of the parts. We see it often enough to accept it as part of the process. The best thing about what we do at The Medical and Skin Spa is that you don't have to opt for the big hit. It's maintenance. It's doing a lot of little things but doing them regularly. "Baby steps" is how I usually refer to it. It's a way of smoothing out the highs and lows and looking good and feeling better all the time. COMPLEXION PERFECTION BY KATE SOMERVILLE
|
Kate Somerville first blasted onto our radar screen more than five years ago when I was giving a lecture on TITAN at a medical meeting in L.A. She was on the program later that morning to speak about marketing and I stayed to listen. What I heard was the first person ever who shared my understanding about what went into achieving skin health.
We were the first medical office to see the value in her products, brought several of them into the office, and embarked on a relationship that has seen us together on TV and in print media and sharing a lot of ideas including the highly effective Dermal Quench.
Not long ago Kate wrote a book called COMPLEXION PERFECTION. It is an absolutely amazing source of information, as comprehensive and as important as anything I have ever read about skin care. She deals with the hidden factors that influence skin including stress, nutrition, and supplements, as well as actual skin care (sound familiar?) and does it in a way that is accurate, engaging, readable, and very personal.

LIP SERVICE
Our three-pronged attack on restoring and maintaining lip volume while improving those pesky lip lines (that attract lipstick like a magnet) involves:
1. Restoring lip volume with comfortable Juvederm XC (with lidocaine),
2. Maintaining the volume with daily use of Lip Plump by Skin Medica, shown to improve lip volume and coloration,
3. Using Clarisonic's OPAL (recently featured in the DESERT MAGAZINE) with the special serum twice daily around the lips.
