Creativity is a process that can't be looked at too closely;
it is changed by the very act of observing. Since the publication of my novel, SPIRIT RANCH, I have
discovered that working to make a face more youthful or writing a novel have more
in common then might be imagined at first glance. There is a transcendent moment with both acts,
a point in time where preparation, study, experience, and heart all come together.
The result is out there for all the world
to see, an intimate baring of the soul, a point where explanations stop and the
finished product is left to stand on its own. Or fall. When it works it is like a perfect moment in sports, an
achievement that, once experienced, draws you back again and again. This much I do know: Creativity begins with passion, a fire
to do something, to place your mark where there was nothing. Unless you are Mozart, an extensive
groundwork has to be in place often requiring years of study and of
preparation. What is ultimately seen as effortless is actually the confluence
of many forces. Lucille Ball used to say
that what made I LOVE LUCY so successful was that she practiced and rehearsed
so much the finished product looked spontaneous. The moment of creation is wildly exhilarating and humbling
at the same time. At the end you are
left wondering where it all came from because when it works out you realize
that you were somewhere off to the side while it was going on, at once an
observer and an instrument of the Ultimate Creator, privileged and blessed to

It seems hardly possible that on September 27 we began our eighth year as The Medical and Skin Spa. It has been an amazing adventure. Looking back and being on the cutting edge of the new field of aesthetic medicine it seemed at times as if we were rebuilding an F18 jet fighter while traveling at the speed of sound. Certainly not many dull moments but we are proud of the many innovations we added to this new field. At our kickoff party in 2003, Dick Monfort, the owner of the resort, said that if they had made any mistake it was in not making our offices big enough. His words were prophetic. And while we could not have done it without our talented and dedicated staff, the priceless ingredient in the equation was and is and always will be our patients. In a recent survey of our patients we were humbled and gratified at how many patients were pleased with the results of the treatments we performed. Everyone who responded referred to our staff as feeling like family, and characterized our office as comfortable and homey. That is exactly the ambiance we set out to create all those years ago. We love it when a plan comes together. So Happy Anniversary to us all. And thank you. We commit to rededicating ourselves to the vision that made us what we are and we invite you to join us in the years to come for more of the great adventure. We are proud to announce our association with LESLIE
STEWART, RN.  Leslie is a highly
experienced and very talented nurse-injector who has been in the desert for
five years and brings her own following of devoted patients to our office.
A native of Vancouver, BC, her career has spanned several countries and includes
a stint teaching physicians and nurses in Shenzehn,
China as well and as a
Critical Care and Intensive Care nurse in units from Florida
and Idaho to Hoag
Hospital in Newport Beach.
Leslie has a deep background in skin care and aesthetics, and conceived,
implemented, and managed the total skin care clinic for a distinguished plastic
surgeon in Winter Park, FL before transitioning to injectables in
2000. We are very fortunate to have Leslie on our staff and look forward
to a long and mutually satisfying relationship.

LIP SERVICE
Our three-pronged attack on restoring and maintaining lip volume while improving those pesky lip lines (that attract lipstick like a magnet) involves:
1. Restoring lip volume with comfortable Juvederm XC (with lidocaine),
2. Maintaining the volume with daily use of Lip Plump by Skin Medica, shown to improve lip volume and coloration,
3. Using Clarisonic's OPAL with the special serum twice daily around the lips.
