Some 20 years ago a group of eight Tibetan monks gathered at the Natural History Museum in L.A. and spent about two months making a sand mandala, an eight feet in diameter design created from tiny grains of colored sand carefully arranged in extremely small and incredibly intricate figures of gods, animals, and religious designs.  When it was completed the monks very lovingly and ritualistically demolished their creation and poured the sand into the ocean, symbolically displaying the Buddhist belief in the transitory nature of life.
 
I had the good fortune to witness that ceremony with my youngest son and the lesson has remained in my mind ever since.
 
I have thought of that lesson a lot lately as regards our staff at The Medical and Skin Spa.  A staff is an organic entity.  Even though you expend your best efforts to create it, the chemistry either is there or it isn't. 
 
The staff we have brought together now has an extraordinary amount of energy and an amazing amount of good chemistry.  From Brandi Lara, RN, our Laser Nurse and longest-tenured employee, to Andie Bradley, our newest Medical Aesthetician and talented makeup artist, it all seems like pure synergy. We are fortunate to have an extraordinary Nurse Injector in Leslie Stewart, RN, a very experienced Medical Aesthetician in Lynne Scott, and a compassionate Patient Care Coordinator in the person of Wendy Degnan.  Of course it is all rounded out by JoAnn, our jack-of-all-trades, the glue that binds it together.

The icing on our cake is the arrival of Jennifer DiFrancesco, Agua Serena Spa's new Spa Director, fresh from bringing the last spa she directed into the top ten spas of the world.  We are really looking forward to working with her and making more spa history.
 
How long before the sand gets poured into the ocean?  We obviously don't know, but right now it is as rewarding to observe as the most carefully wrought sand mandala.  I invite you to come in and witness the magic for yourself.
