Greetings!
 "If you don't know lumber, you had better know your lumber
dealer." That's the sign that hung over
the entrance to the hardware store my Dad frequented when I was a little
boy. It made perfectly good sense to my seven
year old mind and I promised myself I would always go to an expert if I had a
question or something confused me. I have mostly done that ever since, and the times I didn't I wish
I had...I would have avoided some costly
mistakes. There are a lot of things that are confusing about this world. Most of them are out there somewhere and don't
impact our daily lives. How we look,
however, is pretty close to home yet how to address what we don't like can
be completely perplexing Just
reading through the latest ALLURE magazine can be an adventure that can deter even the most determined. That's what lead me to repackage that old lumberyard saying
for aesthetic medicine: "If you don't know skin, you had better know your
aesthetic derm doc." At least 60 percent of what I do every day involves patient education and it's one task I personally find very satisfying. We always encourage you to come in with all of your questions, issues, or ideas related to how to look and feel better. Consultations are always complimentary. FACE 2 FACE WITH JOANN

PATIENCE
You're right...that's not the usual picture of me, but it's a picture of my alter ego, the part of my life that puts everything else in perspective.
The horse is Groovy, a Thoroughbred mare just shy of 13 years old.
Working as much as we do we don't always have time to ride as much as we would like (or as much as our horses need) and Groovy went through a period of time about a year ago when the world was a scary place. Riding her was an adventure and not always a fun adventure.
The Doc went back to square one with her and embarked on a mission to build her trust back. It involved him relearning how to speak her language and spending hours and hours establishing a new, solid communication. And it required drawing on the deep reservoir of patience he always seems to have with animals.
The result is that Groovy is mostly back to being a solid friend.
It occurred to me that the quality of patience is something to which we aspire and something that is becoming less common, particularly in this 21st century world of instant everything. It takes patience to take the baby steps necessary to achieve the goals of health and beauty inside and out, and patience to reverse years of sun damage. The bottom line is we need more patience with others, but mostly with ourselves.
It's a lesson we never stop learning.
